Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychiatric Registered Nurse based in North Carolina. I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology from Old Dominion University and an Educational Specialist degree in Counseling Psychology from the College of William and Mary. Additionally, I earned my Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and am currently completing my doctorate in Christian Counseling. With over 20 years of experience as a practicing therapist, I specialize in helping adults with depression and anxiety disorders become the best versions of themselves.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
My work as a therapist with clients struggling with depression and anxiety is significant. I bring a combination of structure, empathy, and insight to help them navigate the challenges they face. My ability to see patterns, provide clarity, and guide clients toward practical and lasting change makes me particularly effective in this role. Given my meticulous nature and commitment to ethical standards, I am well-positioned to help clients process their emotions and develop actionable strategies that lead to real progress. I support a thoughtful and well-rounded approach—one that meets clients where they are and helps them move toward a life of greater balance and purpose.

Christian Counseling
I integrate Christian Counseling to support adult clients in navigating life's challenges through a faith-based perspective. This approach is grounded in biblical principles and encourages spiritual growth, emotional healing, and practical application of Christian values. I work with clients to explore their faith, address struggles with grace and resilience, and apply scripture-based wisdom to personal and relational issues. Through this process, clients gain clarity, strength, and a deeper connection to their beliefs, fostering personal and spiritual well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help adult clients identify and reshape unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and behavioral challenges. We explore the connections between thoughts, feelings, and actions through structured sessions, developing practical strategies to foster healthier perspectives and responses. Clients learn to challenge negative thinking, build coping skills, and cultivate resilience, ultimately empowering them to navigate life’s difficulties with confidence and clarity.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I incorporate Culturally Sensitive Therapy to honor each client’s unique background, values, and lived experiences. This approach fosters an open, respectful space where individuals feel seen and heard without judgment. By integrating cultural awareness into our sessions, I help clients explore their identity, navigate challenges influenced by cultural factors, and build resilience. Together, we work toward healing and growth, aligning with their personal and community values.
Racial trauma treatment
I integrate Racial Trauma Treatment to help adult clients process and heal from the emotional and psychological effects of racial discrimination and systemic oppression. Through a compassionate and empowering approach, I provide a safe space to explore experiences, validate emotions, and develop strategies for resilience. I incorporate mindfulness, narrative therapy, and strength-based techniques to foster healing, self-advocacy, and personal empowerment, helping clients move forward with confidence and well-being.
Supportive
In my practice, I use Supportive Therapy to provide adult clients with a safe and encouraging space to explore their thoughts and emotions. This approach emphasizes validation, guidance, and emotional reinforcement, helping clients build confidence and resilience. Through empathetic listening and practical coping strategies, I assist clients in navigating life’s challenges while fostering personal growth and stability. My goal is to ensure they feel heard, understood, and empowered in their journey toward well-being.

Phyllis was so easy to talk to. It was as if I was talking to and catching up with an old friend! She is also a God fearing woman, and that’s very important to me, not to mention she’s got a great sense of humor.

I think Phyllis is about the first therapist that I felt comfortable sharing with in a long time. I look for in an initial session to get a sense of the therapist and whether there is a level of trust that can be established and work that can be done together. I feel that Ms. Roberson has at least given me the impression that she hears me.
