About me

Hello, my name is Matthew Cruz, but many people call me Matt. I enjoy talking with people about their problems, offering them support, and helping them to find a way forward. My background is in substance use and with that, I am familiar with CBT and DBT approaches. However, I am looking for what works and am not attached to any one mode of treatment. I enjoy helping people explore meaning and symbolism in their world through a person centered approach to treatment. For those that are interested, I am comfortable incorporating faith and spiritual practice into the treatment experience.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session will focus on us getting to know one another. Feel each other out. I will have diagnostic questions to ask, of course, and I would expect to have at least one action item to work on come the end of the session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I enjoy making connections with people and learning how to see the world from their perspective. I am a talker and enjoy laughing as often as possible. I am passionate about people achieving a better sense of mental wellness.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Are you a nerd or part of a fandom? Do you enjoy TV, movies, or other media? Are you interested in discussing how these interests may help your therapeutic journey? Do you enjoy having interesting and/or challenging conversations? Are you interested in discussing your struggles? Then you and I may be a good fit for working together.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using this treatment modality since entering the field. I enjoy helping clients identify thought processes that are not helping them reach their goals and developing new perspectives to help them improve their quality of life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I pull ideas and concepts from DBT to augment treatment as appropriate. I do not practice rigid or adherent DBT.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Recognizing the elements of our life that we cannot change and working to understand how to move forward with them is profoundly important.
