I am a Licensed Psychologist who earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the City University of New York completing my internship training at NYU Bellevue Hospital. I began my career as a certified school psychologist in the early 1980s and have been a licensed psychologist since 1995. I have treated a diverse population trained many therapists and psychologists. I believe in the each persons drive toward positive mental health. I am strength based in my treatment approach, building on the client resiliency.
In the first session I conduct a detailed interview in order to understand the client's concern (s). After I obtain a good history of concerns I generally provide my preliminary assessment and describe my approach to therapy. I emphasize that one task is to help the client become his or her own therapist so as to not require my services. The patient may then present questions to me which I will do my best to provide answers. I am an active psychologist who gives feedback while emphasizing the client's autonomy.
My greatest stengths are my years of empathy and ability to identify appropriately with the emotional experiences encountered in the journey of life. My strength include my willingness to present strategies and guide the client in skill development.
I have provided CBT to multiple populations and in specialized settings such as military and special youth and family programs. The application of this treatment method was closely monitored for adherence to treatment protocol. I have skills in the application of CBT for depression, anxiety, trauma, and sleep disturbance.
I have conducted and run evidence based family therapy treatments, training therapists in the implementation of family therapy.
A major aspect of my professional activities have included conducting couples therapy.
Treatment with me reflect am interation of cogntive interpersonal and other psychodynamic therapy , reflecting 30 years of extensive work with multiple and diverse populations.
