My name is Brenda Acevedo and I have over 14 years experience working in the mental health field in Texas. I am Licensed Professional Counselor, with a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I started working with the State of Texas as a social worker helping the indigent population in 2010. Since then, I have worked with adults (men/women, LGBTQ-IA), children, couples, the elderly, and families. I have experience with the Intellectual Developmental Disable (IDD) population, Addictions, Trauma, and Crisis.
During the first session, we will discuss biological, psychological, and social aspects of the clients life. We will review paperwork, discuss what brings the client in, and go over how I can possibly help the client.
My therapeutic approaches are using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian, and Reality Theories. I like these theories because I believe in getting to the root of the presented problem from where it stems. In this way the clients needs are not only addressed, but symptoms are reduced. Receiving answers, and understand the problem can motivate a client to problem solve. In this way, we can work toward a resolution that works best. Using the Adlerian growth model, assists in growth towards being the clients better self, by ways of finding meaning, to create the clients vision of a better life.
I have many years of experience treating patients under this modality.
