I'm a therapist who uses many different approaches to help clients increase their satisfaction with their personal lives, jobs, and relationships. Using a person-centered approach, the client and therapist work together to better understand and solve the client's problems. I work with the client to obtain positive change in their life. I use many different treatment approaches to help the client reach their goals.
After a brief introduction, the client and I will begin to discuss the client's concerns and how a therapist might help. I will ask the client to describe the positive aspects of themselves and their lives. I will ask them to describe their major strengths so we can understand what to build on. What is it that brought the client into therapy? What is it that they want to change about their life?
I am an accepting, caring person. I don't want to provide answers to a client - I want them to find the answers themselves. My job is to provide a different perspective on their problems and increase the client's awareness of how their thoughts affect how they feel. I view my role is as a guide on a journey to self-knowledge.
Therapist helps clients identify their frequent thoughts and analyze them. Awareness of thoughts can help a client determine whether their thoughts are rational or irrational. Changing how someone thinks about something can change the way one experiences an event. This treatment is especially helpful for anxiety and depression.
Clients determine what they want their life to look like and then how to get to the life they want. Clients decide their goals and how to pursue them. The client is empowered to take actions despite negative or self-defeating thoughts. ACT is an action-oriented treatment that helps with depression. Often used when people feel stuck in their life.
This treatment method is used to help clients find hope and process trauma. The client and therapist review and discuss the client's experience, and then process the thoughts and assumptions about the experience. The therapist helps clients learn new ways of thinking about themselves and their trauma. Clients can learn to accept their past experiences while moving their life forward.
The therapist will use a combination of treatments and methods as necessary to help the client better understand themselves, their relationships, and their lives. Therapy needs to fit the client's needs, so an eclectic approach is designed to draw on different treatment methods as necessary. Therapist uses exposure therapy, CBT, CPT, mindfulness, ACT, solution-focused, and person-centered therapy treatments.
