My name is Jane Miller, LISW (Licensed in OHIO) and I am honored to be joining this community. I have been in private practice for 30 years and my work is my passion. It is such a gift to be trusted by clients and to work together with a sense of safety. I act as a catalyst for change, growth and transformation. I deeply believe I was born to follow my dream of helping others live with the ability to fulfill their dreams. I provide individual psychotherapy for adults. I specialize in lesbian/ gay/bisexual/transgender issues, family/interpersonal relationships, chronic/ terminal illnesses, generalized anxiety disorders, bipolar, depression, and trauma. At age 24, I was faced with my own mortality which propelled me on a personal journey of healing and self-discovery. As a result, I am grateful to live each day to the fullest, cherishing every moment. I integrate holistic healing modalities that focus on the mind-body connection including relaxation/stress reduction techniques, guided imagery, visualization, meditation, somatic practices, incorporating polyvagal theory, QiGong, Reiki, pet therapy, creative arts, and movement techniques. For me, the therapeutic process is a learning process, one of exploration and healing. The client is the expert in his/her/their experience. I am here to guide you, to help you reach your goals, and to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
At the beginning we are getting to know each other and work towards building a sense of safety and building trust. Providing tools to help the client relax and feel able to stay present. Always making sure that the client is not getting overwhelmed or flooded staying below threshold. Taking things slow and pacing based on the clients needs. Exploring what was the catalyst to enter therapy. Having a dialogue where the client feels safe to provide feedback and needs. Providing information pertaining how to reach me via Grow and that I will get back to them as soon as possible. Answering all of their questions and what works for them like journalling, breathing techniques etc. Every client is different and benefit from some techniques and not others. Having a huge diverse background in various techniques because one size does not fit everyone and being highly trained will help us begin the journey of healing, growing with the most effective modalities.
I offer unique strengths to the therapeutic process. I draw upon years of study and training, having honed my skills with experience across a wide range of clients. With years of experience comes a deep trust in the therapeutic process – using my training in clinical methods, deeply immersed in techniques based on polyvagal theory which include somatic practices, stress reduction techniques that include breathing techniques, meditation, visualization, movement, compassion based therapy, and trauma informed care, just a few of the techniques along with a deep sense of intuition and compassion. In addition, I have specialized in training psychiatric service dogs This work has led me to an understanding of non-verbal communication, body language and a keen awareness of observation.
I am a feminist therapist & have been trained in many healing modalities to meet the specific needs of each individual. Different methods work for different people. I value the client, acknowledge the client's potential, & see the client as a competent, worthy, capable human being. I vary the techniques used depending on where the client is and with awareness of the client's diagnosis, using the diagnosis as an analytical tool in the best interest of the client. These principles can be demonstrated through non-verbal feedback, body language, role modeling, and a multitude of other modalities. As a client-centered therapist, I work hand-in-hand with my clients, discussing goals, approaches & interventions. For me, the therapeutic process is a learning process, one of exploration/healing.
