About me

Hi! I'm Becca. My expertise is in helping adults address concerns with trauma, grief and loss and anxiety. I specialize in working with those who have experienced childhood abuse, traumatic loss, sexual assault, religious trauma and vicarious trauma in their work, such as first responders. Have you been told to just “get over it?” Are you prone to keeping things inside because you don't want to burden others? This is a space where you don’t have to explain why it’s hard. With specialized training in all forms of trauma, grief and loss, and anxiety, I offer support and encouragement as you navigate those hard emotions and thoughts. Initiating counseling or transitioning to a new therapist can be challenging. I will always do my best to listen and understand your concerns, reduce distress and work to improve your self-compassion. I am a goal oriented therapist but also flexible enough to shift to meet your needs in session. I look forward to working with you!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first session I like to better understand what is bringing you to counseling. I want to learn more about your background and history. I may ask some questions in the first session to better understand what would be most helpful to you and what you would like to gain from our time together. It is also your time to see how you feel talking to me and determine if you want to continue with further sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My biggest strength is helping people resolve and heal trauma and grief. Trauma can exacerbate anxiety, depression and grief symptoms and greatly affect relationships. I have a certification in Traumatic Stress Studies that has helped me tailor therapy for those who have experienced a one-time traumatic event or ongoing stressful experiences. I also have worked extensively with clients who experienced childhood abuse, traumatic loss, sexual assault, religious trauma and vicarious trauma in their work, such as first responders. I also work with clients who have Anxiety and/or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and use Exposure and Response Therapy along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to reduce symptoms. I also have a lot of experience working with the LGBTQ+ population, especially those who experience sexual and gender identity issues.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I serve adults that have always focused on helping others and struggle to take care of themselves. It seems easier to try to avoid pain, loss and hard emotions, however, it usually makes it worse not better over time. I work with those who are ready to process past trauma, grief and loss and feelings of anxiety or fear. I am a person-centered therapist that likes to focus on a client's strengths. My expertise is helping people resolve and heal trauma and grief. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and use EMDR to process trauma, reduce anxiety, especially social anxiety, obsessive thoughts and heal past wounds. I also use Exposure and Response Therapy (ERP) to address concerns with OCD along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to address concerns with anxiety and panic.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) for over 10 years. I use it to help process past trauma. It also works to reduce anxiety and OCD. It is very effective and many of my clients with anxiety, OCD, and trauma utilize it to reduce their symptoms.

Daialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for several years. It is very effective at helping people regulate their emotions, improve distress tolerance and become more mindful. This therapy is great for those who have depression, anxiety, grief and trauma.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

I have been trained in Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of OCD and Panic Disorder. It is very effective at helping manage symptoms of fear along with thoughts of "what if?".
