LPCC, 3 years of experience
Are you struggling with anxiety, the lingering weight of trauma, or feeling deeply stuck in patterns you can't seem to break? Perhaps you're dealing with chronic worry, the burden of people-pleasing, or relying on substances to numb the pain. You don’t have to carry these burdens alone. I’m Deirdre Kuvaas, LPCC, a virtual trauma therapist committed to helping adults find profound healing. I offer a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where your story can unfold at your own pace. I am licensed to provide teletherapy across multiple states, including Minnesota (MN), Ohio (OH), Utah (UT), and North Dakota (ND). Healing begins when we feel truly seen and heard—and I’m here to help you reconnect with a sense of calm, clarity, and self-trust.
The first session is all about establishing connection and comfort. We will discuss your current challenges—whether it's Generalized Anxiety (GAD), effects of past trauma or PTSD, or difficulty maintaining sobriety. We'll outline your hopes for our work together and begin exploring your story. You can expect warmth, curiosity, and a collaborative approach from the very start. My goal is to ensure you feel safe and empowered as we begin the healing journey.
My biggest strength lies in combining deep empathy with targeted trauma-informed care. Clients consistently highlight feeling truly seen and heard with me. I have a strong ability to help adults explore their experiences with gentleness, while staying focused on the root causes of trauma, chronic anxiety, and substance use disorders. I integrate effective, evidence-based approaches like EMDR and CPT to tailor each session precisely to your needs, ensuring sustainable growth.
I work exceptionally well with adults (18-64) ready to explore the deeper roots of challenges like Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and navigating addiction recovery. Many of my clients are self-aware individuals seeking to overcome people-pleasing or long-standing emotional patterns. My approach is fully person-centered and focuses on integrating evidence-based methods to help you understand the emotional roots of your struggles—not just manage symptoms—so you can feel more grounded and in control of your daily life.
In this method, I work with you to uncover and challenge the core beliefs shaped by past experiences. We focus on identifying and reframing negative self-talk and unhelpful thought patterns to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, worry, and foster healthier self-talk.
This collaborative method is highly effective for individuals dealing with substance use disorders (SUD) or feeling ambivalence about sobriety and goals. We work to explore and resolve this ambivalence, helping you access and solidify your own inherent motivation for change.
CPT is a evidence-based trauma-focused therapy. We systematically examine the entrenched beliefs and messages you’ve carried from your past experiences and trauma. Together, we work on shifting the ones that are heavy or unhelpful, so you can feel lighter, experience fewer triggers, and gain a greater sense of control. The benefit is that this healing work can be done without lengthy discussions of graphic trauma details.
EMDR is a specialized therapy that uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) to help your brain naturally process distressing memories and release emotions locked in the body. This significantly eases symptoms like intense anxiety, debilitating flashbacks, and emotional triggers, allowing for powerful, deep healing. The premise is that your body has the innate ability to heal from trauma.
I use this positive and practical method to quickly tap into your existing strengths and resources. We focus on defining your preferred future and identifying what is currently working well in your life, accelerating your progress and focusing on achievable goals.

I am comfortable talking to her. I am starting to hear feedback and confirmation just for me that I’m okay and that my feelings I have are normal but don’t define me.
