Hello, and welcome! My name is JD, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Oklahoma and Texas. I’ve recently completed my internship for my doctorate in clinical psychology, with the goal of becoming a licensed psychologist in the near future. My hope is that through our work together, I can help you find relief and resilience as you navigate life’s challenges. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward well-being
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Drawing on 10 years of experience working with young people, veterans, athletes, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, I help clients get to the root of their challenges and build individualized strategies that lead to real, measurable change.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work with people from all backgrounds and stages of life, and I believe therapy should feel like a safe, supportive space for anyone who’s ready to talk and grow. That said, I have a particular passion for working with young athletes, professionals, and individuals in the early years of their careers or those who are still figuring out their direction. Many of my clients are motivated and capable, yet feel stuck, overwhelmed, or anxious about where they’re headed. They often know they want more for themselves but aren’t sure how to bridge the gap between their goals and their day-to-day reality. My role is to help you build the tools and confidence you need, work through obstacles, and move forward in a way that feels aligned with the life you want to create.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have been using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in my practice for the past five years, working primarily with medical students and military veterans. My experience with DBT has shown me how powerful it can be in helping individuals manage intense emotions, develop coping skills, and build resilience. In my sessions, I focus on creating a supportive and collaborative environment where clients feel understood and empowered to apply DBT techniques in their daily lives. I tailor the approach to meet each person's unique needs, whether it's through individual therapy, group sessions, or a combination of both, always aiming to help them achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I have been practicing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for the past seven years, specifically working with athletes. My experience with ACT has allowed me to help athletes navigate the unique psychological challenges they face, whether it's managing performance anxiety, dealing with injury recovery, or maintaining focus and motivation. In my practice, I emphasize the importance of embracing thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding them, while also helping clients commit to actions that align with their values. My approach is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where athletes can explore their inner experiences and develop mental strategies that enhance both their performance and overall well-being. I work collaboratively with my clients to tailor the therapy to their individual needs, ensuring that they can apply these techniques both on and off the field.

Had a great first session with John. He made me feel comfortable and his willingness to listen compassionately made it easy to open myself up just a little.
