What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The initial session, or intake session, sets the stage for expectations and begins the process of building trust. It prioritizes the client's voice, focusing on reasons for seeking therapy and goal setting. The therapist introduces their therapeutic approach and outlines what future sessions may entail. This session includes an assessment covering mental health symptoms, current stressors, and personal history to customize a treatment plan. It's a time for rapport-building, encouraging questions to ensure a comfortable match, and setting the foundation for a supportive, understanding connection. Individuals are encouraged to share their stories marking the start of their journey toward healing and growth in a supportive environment. The aim in this first session is to establish a connection where you feel heard and understood.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

This therapy is highly versatile and effective for treating a variety of issues including addiction, anger management, depression, anxiety, and stress management. CBT helps clients identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns and replace them with more realistic and effective thoughts, thereby decreasing emotional distress and self-defeating behavior.

Motivational Interviewing

Effective in addiction and anger management contexts, MI is a client-centered therapy that enhances an individual's motivation to change by helping them explore and resolve ambivalence. It is particularly useful for engaging clients who are unsure about initiating change or who feel conflicted about their ability to succeed.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

This form of therapy uses strategies of acceptance and mindfulness, mixed with commitment and behavior-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. It’s particularly helpful for clients dealing with self-esteem issues, self-doubt, and feelings of inadequacy, as it teaches them how to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Ideal for clients transitioning to new life phases or dealing with relationship and family conflicts, SFBT focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than dwelling on past problems. This modality encourages clients to envision their future and helps them identify the strengths and resources they already possess to make that vision a reality.

Narrative

This therapy centers on the stories that individuals construct and live by. It can be especially powerful for those dealing with self-esteem issues, family conflict, and transitions in life. Narrative therapy helps clients to identify their values and the skills associated with them in their story, and to use these narratives to address problems in their lives.
