My name is Robert Kaiser and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) in Michigan. You can take a look at my profile to learn a little bit more about my background and approach. Please also feel free to ask questions. Online counseling is fairly new, and I've found it to be really effective for issues like the ones you mentioned in your message. My counseling style is pretty laid back. I have been described as supportive, caring, and compassionate, with a pretty good sense of humor. I like to focus on identifying your strengths and helping you to maximize them to overcome your obstacles. I'm here to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment. Therapy offers a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings. Asking for help takes a lot of courage but can be extremely rewarding. I look forward to working with you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will get to know each., which is the foundation of a strong therapeutic relationship. You will share with me a brief personal history and the reason or reasons you are seeking therapy. We will create the goals you want to accomplish through the therapy process. I will provide you with a brief background of my history as a therapist, my style, my philosophy, the therapy techniques I find most useful. We will also discuss each of our expectations moving forward. Finally, you will ask any questions you may have.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over the years I have been a therapist, I have learned to follow the client. My experience with most clients is that the answers to their problems tend to lie within themselves. What is needed is a partner with a trained ear and a caring, relaxed, non-judgmental demeaner to help them help themselves.

My treatment methods

Strength-Based

Strength-based therapy is a type of positive psychotherapy and counseling that focuses on your internal strengths and resourcefulness, rather than on your weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. This focus sets up a positive mindset that helps you build on your best qualities, find your strengths, improve resilience, and change your worldview to one that is more positive.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by interrogating and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs. Considered a "solutions-oriented" form of therapy, CBT rests on the idea that thoughts and perceptions influence behavior.

Attachment-based

Person-centered therapy helps you resolve conflicts, reorganize your values and approaches to life, and teaches you to interpret your thoughts and feelings. This is meant to help you change behavior that you believe is interfering with your mental health.
