My name is Jeffrey Meltzer, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Florida. I graduated with a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida and have been providing therapy services for 5 years. I aim to deeply understand your challenges and goals while striving to provide a space where you feel comfortable expressing yourself. Here, you will be able to better understand yourself and gain evidence-based tools to navigate the various challenges life presents. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. In my spare time, I enjoy golfing, reading, and spending time with my wife and our two pugs.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our initial session, you can expect me to ask you questions to get to know you better. I may ask more questions than in a typical therapy session because I aim to gather information that will best help you. I will listen to your primary motives for being in therapy, we will establish goals for therapy, and I will explain the protocol for our sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I provide unconditional positive regard, and I am always conducting more research to help you. I acknowledge limitations and always keep an open mind so that I can continue to learn more. I also believe that there is a positive side to mental illnesses (ie. a person is caring, wants a better future, etc)

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to modify faulty belief systems, such as 'I am unlovable', 'I am not good enough', and 'I am a bad person'. The strategies and interventions I use from CBT are grounded in extensive research. Additionally, I utilize CBT to help you overcome cognitive blocks that prevent you from creating healthy habits. Lastly, I like to use CBT so that you can become a better problem solver and become your own best therapist.

Schema Therapy

I utilize Schema Therapy to process childhood trauma. I primarily use Schema Therapy when you intellectually understand that specific events from your childhood are not your fault, but at the emotional level, they still impact you. In Schema Therapy, we use in vivo imagery to restructure old memories that negatively affect you.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I employ techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you live a life that is more congruent with your values. This includes being able to accept and tolerate unpleasant feelings and thoughts that may be bothersome. There is a variety of techniques that help decrease the power intrusive thoughts or bothersome feelings have over you.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

I use Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy to modify specific belief systems, particularly inflexible beliefs that can produce significant anger and resentment in your life.
