Hi. I'm Bill. I've been working in this field since 2003 treating adults experiencing symptoms related to the anxiety disorders, depressed mood, identity and self-concept difficulties, relationship problems, life-transition difficulties, and traumatic memories. These difficulties along with other related topics that may surface during a therapy session. My therapy approach is quite straightforward, collaborative, and non-judgmental. It's structured to help you develop a healthier and happier life. We begin by identifying the circumstances that prompted you to seek therapy. Then I help you to develop skills and solutions tailored for you to help you move forward toward that healthier life. It's a collaborative approach. You and I work together through this process. From this perspective, listening is the most-important part of communication. When I genuinely listen to your experiences and concerns without judgment or distraction, I can respond appropriately to your concerns. "Right Speech begins with Right Listening." PLEASE BOOK APPOINTMENTS ON THE HOUR. THANKS.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session, my primary objectives are 1) listening to you intently and non-judgmentally, during our interaction, while taking note of key information and themes, 2) empathizing with you regarding the circumstances that prompted you to seek therapy, and 3) using that initial body of information to develop basic and relevant approaches to help you build healthy empowerment, self-awareness, well-being, and more. Homework is assigned toward the end of each session. Following sessions build upon the last as more information typically surfaces in light of events that may occur between sessions. Also, we evaluate the effectiveness of skills developed during session and practiced between appointments. If necessary, we adjust those needing it to improve their effectiveness for you.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

My treatment method is Eclectic Therapy utilizing various approaches depending upon the circumstances: 1) Buddhist psychology by helping clients to reduce their suffering, build self-awareness, identify their suffering's root causes, and develop well-being; 2) Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to calm the mind, reduce anxiety, and develop healthier responses to stressful circumstances; 3) Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify unhealthy thoughts and deeply held core beliefs regarding self and others and systematically modify them; 4) Strength-based approaches to identify healthy beliefs and behaviors used in one area that can be applied to another; and 5) If applicable, Systematic Desensitization to address traumatic memories that promote various degrees of distress.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My primary strengths are treating Anxiety-related disorders and multiple variants within that broad category. In fact, many psychological difficulties and formal disorders outside that category have anxiety as a core component. Persistent anxiety can become debilitating over time and have detrimental affects on the body due to the prolonged presence of adrenaline and cortisol within the bloodstream, on the mind due to frequent perceptions of being vulnerable and under threat, and to life in general due to avoidance tendencies (social, environmental, occupational, etc.) that often activate inappropriate anxiety and fear. Irrational avoidance typically produces a certain degree of safety and comfort, which can actually worsen the problem. PLEASE BOOK APPOINTMENTS ON THE HOUR. THANKS.
