I offer therapy for those who may be experiencing life changes or transitions, having difficulties in their personal relationships, depression, anxiety, and other challenges that may be affecting their thoughts, mood, and/or quality of life. My experiences have given me the valuable opportunity to work with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and sexual backgrounds. My name is Samantha McGirt, and I am a licensed therapist in North Carolina, Georgia, and Colorado. As an integrative therapist, I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches—including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mind-Body Therapeutic Approaches, and more—to equip my clients with effective coping skills and strategies for lasting change. Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In your first session, my goal is to help you feel comfortable and understood. We’ll spend time talking about what brought you to therapy, what you hope to accomplish, and any concerns you may have about the process. I’ll ask questions to get a fuller picture of your background, experiences, and current challenges, but there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for. We’ll also discuss how I work as a therapist and collaborate to set initial goals for our time together. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer idea of what therapy will look like and the next steps we’ll take together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is that it’s integrative, personalized, and results-oriented. I draw from evidence-based methods such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, and mind-body approaches, tailoring them to each client’s unique needs and goals. This flexibility allows me to address both the root causes of challenges and the symptoms clients are facing in the present. Clients often share that they feel truly heard and supported while also gaining practical tools they can immediately apply in their daily lives. My focus is not only on helping clients heal from the past but also on building resilience, confidence, and the ability to thrive moving forward.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve individuals who are ready to work through life’s challenges and want to create meaningful change. Many of my clients are navigating the effects of trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, or major life transitions. Others are high-functioning but struggling internally with stress, relationship challenges, or burnout. I work well with clients who value a collaborative, supportive space where they can process their experiences and develop practical tools to manage emotions, improve relationships, and feel more grounded. Whether you’re a first responder, educator, parent, professional, or someone simply seeking balance and healing, my goal is to help you gain clarity, build resilience, and move toward the life you want.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors. CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. Clients learn practical skills to challenge distorted thinking, develop healthier coping strategies, and create lasting behavioral change.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based form of cognitive-behavioral therapy specifically designed to help individuals recover from trauma and PTSD. CPT helps clients identify and challenge unhelpful or distorted beliefs related to the traumatic event, such as self-blame, guilt, or feelings of danger. Through structured exercises and discussions, clients learn to reframe these beliefs, reduce distress, and regain a sense of safety, control, and self-worth.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, taps, or sounds) while the client recalls traumatic memories in a safe environment. This process helps the brain reprocess the memory, reducing the emotional charge and allowing the individual to integrate it in a healthier way.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a form of counseling that focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening relationships among family members. It views the family as a system, recognizing that each person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact the others. Sessions may address issues such as parenting challenges, blended family dynamics, life transitions, grief, or longstanding patterns of conflict. The goal is to help families build healthier connections, develop effective problem-solving skills, and create a more supportive home environment.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices. It focuses on helping clients build skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT is particularly effective for individuals who experience intense emotions, difficulty managing distress, or challenges in relationships.
