LPCC, 10 years of experience
New to Grow
My name is Heather Dickman, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with over 10 years of experience in the counseling field. I am committed to meeting individuals where they are in their journey and providing a compassionate, supportive, and safe space for healing and growth. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling life, and at times, that journey benefits from professional support. It is a true privilege to be invited into the lives of those seeking guidance, and I approach this work with deep respect and care.
Our initial session will focus on building rapport and establishing a collaborative foundation for therapy. During this time, we will explore your reasons for seeking support, discuss any goals you may have (and it’s perfectly okay if these are still unclear), and outline what you can expect from our work together. We will also review your previous experiences with therapy, identifying strategies that have been helpful as well as those that have been less effective. Additionally, we will gather a general overview of your personal history to inform the therapeutic process moving forward.
I am a compassionate, open-minded, and empathetic clinician who values creating a safe and supportive environment for my clients. I recognize that life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, and having a trusted space to be heard and understood can be profoundly impactful. I am deeply committed to respecting our time together and dedicated to providing meaningful support tailored to each individual’s needs. Additionally, I incorporate appropriate humor into my practice, as I believe that laughter can be a vital component of resilience and healing.
I work with a diverse range of clients, including adolescents, adults, and families, who are seeking support as they navigate life’s challenges, heal from past experiences, and move toward personal growth. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about how to move forward. Others are motivated by a desire to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, or create lasting, meaningful change in their lives. Whether clients are entering therapy to address specific issues or are simply seeking greater clarity and emotional balance, I strive to meet them with empathy, respect, and clinical insight. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and client-centered, helping individuals explore the underlying patterns influencing their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we work toward goals such as building healthier relationships, increasing emotional resilience, fostering self-compassion, and creating a more authentic and fulfilling life.
I have experience working with adolescents and adults experiencing attachment-related challenges. My approach focuses on helping clients explore the origins of their attachment patterns and gain insight into how these dynamics impact their daily lives and relationships. Through a collaborative and trauma-informed process, I support clients in achieving healing, fostering secure connections, and promoting meaningful personal growth.
CBT is one of the most common treatment methods I have utilized in my 10 years of experience. This also includes my experience in TF-CBT (trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy). This involves a structured, evidence-based approach to help clients identify and modify unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.
DBT is based on cognitive-behavioral therapy, but it incorporates elements of mindfulness, acceptance, and reasoning. This is specifically helpful to individuals that struggle with emotional dysregulation, self-harm, suicidal ideation, PTSD, substance use and depression/anxiety. I have used this treatment method regularly in my years of practice.
I have always had a passion for family therapy. I believe that a family is a complicated and unique structure that does not perform properly if the dynamic is unbalanced. Focus shifts from individual pathology to relational patterns, communication, and systemic dynamics.
I have worked in a setting dedicated exclusively to supporting individuals through the complexities of grief. Recognizing that grief is a deeply personal and varied experience, I prioritize providing compassionate support, grief education, and a space where individuals feel seen, heard, and validated in their unique healing journey.
