Sherrie Tilghman, LCPC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 7 years of counseling experience. She is licensed in the state of Maryland. She is a team member of Grow therapy. She loves working as a therapist. At Grow therapy, every day is exciting because she has an opportunity to do what she loves and that’s helping people overcome life’s challenges through effective life skills and coping skills. She has a passion for working with the bereaved. It’s often a challenge for the grieving to seek counseling, as a therapist I get the opportunity to accompany them during that journey to healing.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first therapy session, I ask open-ended questions to understand the client's reason for seeking therapy, their goals, past therapy experiences, coping mechanisms, family and personal history, and desired outcomes.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a therapist are: Authentic, empathetic, strong communication skills, active listening, self awareness, trustworthiness, patient, and adaptability.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My prospective client is someone who is overwhelmed by work, stress, and family issues, leading to difficulty sleeping and or eating. Also a client who is looking to boost their self-esteem by setting and achieving goals related to feelings of inadequacy. There may be someone who needs help developing more adaptive coping strategies to navigate significant life challenges. I would serve a client who has had their spirituality challenged and would like to explore it

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I have used this method for over 7 years for various treatments. As a clinician, I'm authentic and present myself to clients as being a real person. This method fosters a safe and supportive environment in effort to empower client's to make decisions about their care and set their own goals. I consider client's experiences, thoughts, and feelings from their perspective without criticism or judgement. I focus on treating each person with respect, and empathy to develop rapport and trust.
