I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, in Kentucky. I have over 13 years of experience in healthcare and mental health. I work with individuals, families, and couples across the life span. I typically see clients ages 14 and above. I have had success with short term (3-5 sessions) and long term (weekly or bi-weekly) therapy sessions. I provide couples counseling services as a Prepare and Enrich provider, and a Gottman-informed therapist. I also offer Premarital Counseling services. I offer assessments and will work with you to advocate for your individual needs with your medical providers, workplace or school.
Many times getting in the door is the most difficult part. The first session it is important for me to identify your goals and create a plan for achieving these over the course of treatment. Once we meet I will spend at least the first 30 minutes asking you questions about your life and circumstances. This way we can get to know each other and establish a sense of comfort and respect with one another.
My therapeutic approach is individualized and holistic. I believe and personally practice the philosophy that if one part of our lives is unwell, then all parts will suffer. In the same way, if one part of our lives is well and thriving this will benefit all other areas. There is no such thing as perfect. You can find peace and health by living a healthy and happy imperfect life.
Attachment based therapy invites the individual to reflect on previous important or difficult relationships to understand how these experiences influence current relationship dynamics.
Using a foundation of compassion I endeavor to create a client-centered safe space and therapeutic relationship. Compassion for one's self can be a difficult skill to build, however, cultivating self-compassion can be a transformative foundation for healing.
Everyone experiences difficulty in one way or another. These difficult experiences can be traumatic and leave a lasting impression on the individual. Trauma leaves a complex physiological, emotional and neurological mark. As a professional therapist I am able to work with individuals to process, reframe and heal from these traumatic experiences. Healing from trauma can improve overall physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. And yet I acknowledge there are systemic, and circumstantial traumatizing patterns and people who make healing a continuous and life-long practice.
Each client is unique and when we meet the complex nuances of your life are vital to honor so that I may provide the best individualized treatment. I have pursued career opportunities with diverse populations in order that I might continue to learn about how pain, adversity, health, wellness, healing and hope are fostered. My experience has taught me that there are many different ways to find peace, health, wellness and healing.
As a therapist I work intentionally to identify your own individual strengths, resiliency and power. Healing, growth and change are achieved by you, with your own strengths and abilities. As a therapist I join with you to help clarify your goals, learn how to stop ineffective habits or behaviors, and find new ways to achieve your goals that are genuine and authentic to you.
