My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on how our thoughts influence our feelings and actions. Rather than external events or other people, it’s often our own thinking patterns that lead to negative emotions. This therapist works collaboratively with clients to identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs, test their accuracy, and replace them with healthier perspectives. Together, they also address behaviors that stem from these thoughts. CBT is structured, goal-oriented, and frequently includes practical exercises or “homework” between sessions. Backed by extensive research, CBT has been shown to effectively treat a wide range of concerns—including depression, anxiety, and substance use—often within a relatively short timeframe.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based, client-centered approach designed to enhance intrinsic motivation for positive change. This method emphasizes collaboration rather than confrontation, creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard and respected. Through active listening and guided dialogue, MI helps individuals explore their own values, strengths, and goals, fostering commitment to meaningful behavioral change. Grounded in principles of partnership, acceptance, compassion, and evocation, MI empowers clients to draw on their internal resources and take steps toward healthier, more fulfilling lives. Who Benefits Most from MI? Motivational Interviewing is especially helpful for individuals who feel ambivalent about change or are struggling with motivation. It is widely used with clients managing: Substance use or addiction recovery. Anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges. Health-related behavior changes (e.g., diet, exercise, medication adherence). Life transitions or goal-setting difficulties.

This provider was a second round first choice. In part it he recommended by my first round pick Many of descriptions given to Dennis aligned with my needs. Dennis seems to have an understanding of me and game plan to aid me in fixing me. It is hard to really determine the quality of a therapist in the first meeting. I spent most of not all of my session telling Dennis about me and my challenges. Dennis did a great job summering my situation and goals.
