New to Grow
Chinelo Okpalobi is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist with over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Let's celebrate this first win of many, deciding to embark on your therapy journey. I'm here to be your teammate, but most importantly, your accountability partner. I take a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy, tailoring each session to your unique needs and goals. There isn't a manual on how to start; once you feel ready, I'm here to guide you through conversation. I’m here to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can be yourself and learn more about yourself.
As a therapist, I believe it's important to be assertive, empathetic, and maintain an active listening style to build trust and rapport. I communicate through non-judgmental language, open-ended questions, reflection, validation of feelings, and respecting boundaries. I believe being an effective leader is equally important as being an effective teammate. Together, we will identify and create goals that allow you to lead your life most effectively and healthily. My goal is for clients to leave each session with a better understanding, feeling the need to explore more avenues about themselves, while connecting the dots through their own healing process and self-discovery.
I utilize various theoretical frameworks, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Gottman method, Gestalt, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and CBT( Trauma-focused). I believe growth and change can begin when you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative, unhelpful thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors. CBT empowers individuals to take an active role in creating goals and tracking their progress independently. As we build our rapport through communication, I may adapt my approach to effectively deal with the present situation. Your goals and progress are my primary focus. Together, we’ll identify challenges and work on strategies to help you move forward with confidence.
I specialize in helping adults reduce anxiety, depression, navigate trauma, increase self-awareness, explore individualism, decrease stress, manage negative emotions, explore past relationships and experiences as they relate to your present relationships, decisions, and cognitive schema. I’ll work with you on creating a growth plan that feels empowering and achievable.
