LPC, 35 years of experience
New to Grow
Hello, my name is Lorene and I'm so glad you are here. My experiences over the past 35 years include working with individuals with substance abuse problems, depression, anxiety and PTSD but no matter what the problem is, sometimes you just need someone to talk to who will listen and provide a space of comfort and safety. I believe that just giving you that space and allowing you to talk about your problems will lead to healing. I'll be there with you. I'm here to help.
In our first session, you can expect to complete or discuss your intake paperwork, talk about the reasons for seeking treatment, share your personal history, and begin to build a relationship with me in order to establish a "good-fit" opportunity for us both. Together we can effective work together to create a plan for your goals.
I am relatively easy going and open minded as well as being direct and honest. Although I am trained in CBT, CPT, and PE, I believe most times just allowing you to talk about your problems goes a long way towards finding a solution and healing. I am a very spiritual person of faith, and I enjoy singing and walking. So if you are looking for a safe place, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to listening to your story.
I am best positioned to serve men, women, Christians, and military service members/veterans.
As your therapist, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a collaborative and practical way to help you improve your life. CBT is an evidence based, short-term, and highly structured therapy that focuses on addressing your current issues rather than delving deeply into the past. The core principle of CBT is that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected and influence one another in a cyclical pattern. By changing one element, you can positively affect the others and break negative cycles that are holding you back. My role is not to simply offer advice but to act as a partner, helping you build practical skills to become your own therapist over time.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy is an evidence-based treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder that can help you reduce and overcome your fear surrounding a traumatic event. The main goal of PE is to help you process the traumatic experience so that the memories and situations that trigger distress no longer have the same power over you. After a trauma, the natural tendency is to avoid anything that reminds you of what happened. While this is a normal coping strategy, it often maintains the fear over time. Through PE, we will work together to help you gradually approach the memories and reminders that you have been avoiding.
