You are stressed and filled with anxiety. Your thoughts are negative and you lack self-confidence. You feel so overwhelmed by emotions that you no longer know what you feel. Or maybe you are emotionally shutdown and just feel numb. Past traumatic events cause you to react to life in unhealthy ways. Intrusive thoughts keep distracting you from what you need to do each day. And you don’t understand why or how to change it. If any of this sounds familiar, there is hope! It is possible to retrain your brain and to develop different ways of thinking about life. You can stop automatically reacting and learn to thoughtfully respond to stressors. I would love to work with you and help you better manage thoughts and stressful emotions.
During our first session, I will help you to begin telling your story. I want to learn who you are, what made you decide to get counseling now, and what your expectations/goals are. And we will work on developing a plan to help you get started achieving those goals.
I work with adults struggling with anxiety, trauma, or emotional unrest. My goal for clients is that they gain a sense of calm and the ability to manage their emotions. I focus on helping my clients learn to notice and identify their emotions. Once you can name your emotions, then you can begin to learn how to live a healthy life with good emotional responses.

Mindfulness therapy is used to help you notice your emotionally and mental reactions to stressors in the present. We can work on past events by noticing your reactions to current stressors. Mindfulness techniques are also powerful coping skills that allow you to decrease anxiousness and increase a sense of calm.
Cognitive behavioral therapy can help you shift your perspective about yourself and the world around you. This frequently involves introducing a different way to think about things and to challenge unhealthy or unhelpful ways of thinking.
In my practice, Christian counseling is based upon the idea that faith is a personal strength which you can lean on. I have past experience serving in a Christian setting and this experience can be brought into my current practice for those who are looking for a faith perspective but are more comfortable speaking with a therapist outside of a church setting.

Julie seemed to understand where I was coming from. As we walked through the issues I felt that she was able to identify techniques that will help me gain my balance again. We had just the first session, but i do see her as someone that can guide me to the work I need to do, to get back to my life.
