About me

Hi, I’m Henry L. Smith Jr., LCSW, and I provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for children, adults, and families. I specialize in helping clients heal from trauma, manage anxiety and depression, and navigate life transitions with clarity and confidence. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can grow, build resilience, and find lasting balance and peace you deserve.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, my focus is on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. You’ll have space to share your story and express what’s been most difficult for you, while I listen with care, curiosity, and compassion. We’ll discuss your goals and begin creating a plan that feels supportive and realistic. I’ll explain my trauma-informed, collaborative approach and share what therapy with me looks like. My goal is for you to leave that first session feeling heard, safe, and encouraged—like you’ve taken the first real step toward healing and growth. Therapy is a journey, and I’ll walk alongside you every step of the way.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths lie in my ability to connect deeply with clients and create a space where healing feels possible. I strive to build genuine relationships grounded in trust, empathy, and collaboration. With over six years of experience in trauma-informed care, child welfare, crisis intervention, and behavioral health, I bring both compassion and clinical insight to my work. I understand that every client’s story is unique, and I tailor therapy to meet each person where they are, empowering them to grow at their own pace. I’m trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)—approaches that help clients find clarity, balance, and renewed confidence. My clients often describe me as calm, grounding, and encouraging. I blend warmth with practical tools that foster resilience, emotional awareness, and meaningful change. Whether you’re working through trauma, relationship struggles, or life transitions, I’m here to help you rediscover your strength and create the lasting peace you deserve.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are individuals, couples, and families who are ready to heal, grow, and move toward meaningful change. Many of the people I work with are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or major life transitions that have left them feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of where to turn next. Some are looking to rebuild trust and communication in their relationships, while others are working to rediscover their confidence and sense of peace. I work especially well with clients who are motivated to better understand themselves and willing to take small, intentional steps toward personal growth. You don’t need to have it all figured out—you just need to be open to exploring, learning, and building new tools for resilience. Whether you’re seeking healing from past pain, stronger relationships, or a more balanced life, I’ll meet you where you are with compassion, understanding, and practical guidance. Together, we’ll create a path forward that helps you feel grounded, capable, and empowered to thrive.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help you move from feeling stuck to building real, lasting change. Together, we’ll focus on your strengths, what’s already working, and the small steps that can make a big difference. My goal is to help you recognize your own resilience, set meaningful goals, and create practical solutions that fit your life. SFBT empowers you to move forward with confidence and hope—because even small shifts can lead to powerful growth.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns and replace them with healthier, more empowering ways of thinking and coping. My approach is collaborative and practical—you’ll gain tools you can use every day to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve your overall well-being. CBT helps you take control of your story and create lasting, positive change.

Couples Counseling

In couples therapy, I help partners rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and reconnect emotionally. Whether you’re navigating conflict, stress, or disconnection, I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where both partners feel heard and understood. Together, we identify patterns that keep you stuck and develop practical tools to improve communication and deepen intimacy. My goal is to help you rediscover your connection and build a stronger, more fulfilling relationship.

Strength-Based

My strength-based approach focuses on what’s right with you—not just what’s wrong. We’ll identify your inner strengths, values, and past successes to help you face challenges with confidence. I believe every person has the capacity for growth and resilience, even in difficult seasons. By focusing on your abilities and potential, we’ll work together to build hope, restore balance, and empower you to create lasting, positive change in your life.

Trauma Informed Care

My trauma-informed approach creates a safe, supportive space for healing at your own pace. I understand how past experiences can shape how you think, feel, and relate to others. Together, we focus on safety, trust, and empowerment while building resilience and self-compassion. My goal is to help you reconnect with your sense of strength and hope, transforming survival into growth and confidence.
