I have 12 years of experience working with diverse populations, genders, and age groups. I received my Master of Social Work/ Social Welfare degree from Stony Brook University, specializing in trauma. I also supported those who have experienced barriers related to substance use, mental health disorders, end-of-life stages/ transitions, interpersonal issues and relationship discord. Happiness should always start with you and end with you feeling it! - "If you don't have YOU in your life then you're not living it". Finding curiosity in discovering strengths within oneself can spread to external desired outcomes.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we start with introductions, get to know one another. Then I will explain the purpose and expectations of therapy. I would be happy to further explanation or clarify anything we discussed. Next, we will go over what you want to accomplish in therapy. This will assist me in creating a tailored goal plan that we will work through in the following sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My professional journey was purposely crafted for me to gain insight, knowledge, and experience to better serve and support my clients throughout their life span. My strength is that I am creative, authentic, eclectic and a natural supporter/ cheerleader for others. Besides providing psychotherapy as a clinician I have also worked as a director at a behavioral health clinic and was able to expand supportive programs through the community that addressed environmental barriers which collectively contributed to a decrease in clients' overall care. I worked as a clinical program specialist who was tasked to build a new system of integrative behavioral health initiatives within a start-up company. Both of these roles were successful by incorporating clients' collective needs and barriers faced by also their clinicians in supporting goal achievement. My strength is viewing individuals openly, and working collaboratively towards finding joy, discovering and honoring your unique true self. New experiences can bring challenges however, with that comes the chance for open opportunities to illuminate self-empowerment and create the life you deserve.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love having a diversified client caseload. I enjoy learning from other's perspectives and their unique backgrounds. Perhaps, one other reason is that I have an eclectic personality so building rapport happens very naturally. Even after all these years, I get excited when clients start to become empowered and start living life as their true authentic selves. Life can be an amazing journey when focused care comes from discovering your true purpose, self-identity, and building the strength to carve pathways leading to your desired goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected. When one of these things is off balance, it can contribute negatively to our overall health and well-being. I will help support you in identifying which of these areas need attention so that they can replaced with empowered change.

Couples Counseling

In couple counseling, I view each individual as themselves, contributing to a supportive and cohesive whole unit where needs are heard, and differences are understood.

Humanistic

I take pride in providing a safe non-judgmental space where you can be heard and understood as the unique individual you are! Positive change is possible when you welcome it. I use a humanistic therapy approach to support you along your change journey. Everyone has an inner strength that should never be hidden or unseen. This approach is aligned with who I am personally, so it naturally flows into my professional side.

Trauma Informed Care

I have a specialization in trauma from Stony Brook University and have a long history of treating individuals who had adverse effects from their past trauma experience(s). I recognize how trauma impacts not only the individual but also their attachments and the overall world around them. I promote a supportive safe space for healing and recovery while being empathically respectful to your timeline for readiness.

Grief Therapy

Grief is a personal experience and healing is individually unique. Grief can result from the death of someone close or other unexpected life circumstances. I have experience providing therapeutic support to those who have lost someone they cared for due to terminal illnesses, addiction, or tragic accidents that caused fatality or that had caused a life-altering disability, divorce, or loss of their own stability due to many hardships. Greif can be shocking and confusing with many stirred-up feelings and thoughts from moment to moment. It could be difficult for family/ friends to give you the type of support you need or say “the right thing”. We will work together in sessions, where you are allowed to set the pace. You will strengthen your understanding of grief, learn how to manage strong emotions, plan for the future, strengthen or rebuild existing relationships, remember the death (or other loss), learn ways to cope with reminders of the death, and how to reflect positively on memories shared with that person.

My first session went amazing with Renee. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me realize some things right off the bat. I was able to comfortably open up to her within the first 10 minutes. She is amazing!!

My first session with Renee went incredibly well. I didn’t expect to have so much to say during our first conversation but she creates an environment that makes it easy to put your feelings into words and she’s a great listener, and connects your stories back to other scenarios so you feel relatable and not crazy.
