My name is Kara Simpson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Illinois and Michigan. I have been in practice for about 9 years. I have experience working with individuals (of all ages), families, and groups with several different types of mental health diagnoses and concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, grief, end of life, addiction, and domestic violence.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I love getting to know my clients and my first sessions are usually very laid back and spent by building rapport and getting a feel for what my clients are looking for in treatment , what has and has not worked in the past, and what their goals are moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am very open-minded and non-judgmental and I have a lot of experience using different treatment modalities that best cater to what my client needs/wants. I am a good listener and can adapt to meet my client where they are mentally and emotionally. I am very open to feedback and want to know if what we are doing is working and if not, I want to make changes to improve your experience in therapy and more beneficial.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with clients of all ages and helping empower them to make their own choices and giving them the tools they need to be successful. My clients may feel depressed, anxious, or have trouble regulating their emotions and I have the ability to help in those areas.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment method for several diagnoses, including Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder (1 &2). I have several years of experience in using this treatment modality within groups and individual settings. DBT uses mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to help minimize interfering symptoms.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) works on changing our thought process surrounding our mental health, symptoms, and situations. CBT reinforces that our thoughts influence our emotions and in turn, our actions. I have years of experience in this area with clients to help manage symptoms, especially with Anxiety and Depressive disorders.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a treatment modality I have used in individual settings and it is used in a way to promote change and identify ambivalence surrounding change and acknowledging that change is hard, but finding that motivation to do so to make positive changes in our life.

I have tried 4 other therapists prior to Kara. She os nonkidgemental, hilarious but also really listens. She offers challenging works that gets your brain going. She doesn't push you off the bat and let's you get comfortable with her. I was immediately drawn to her and her personality during our first visit.
