LCMHC, 15 years of experience
Hi! I'm Rebecca! I've been a therapist for nearly 15 years and specialize in anxiety, trauma, and neurodiversity. I help clients regain a sense of safety in the world and (re)learn how to trust their own bodies and nervous systems. I also help my clients understand how to work with their unique neurotype rather than against it. Using a trauma-informed approach, I believe in letting my clients set their own pace, whether that looks like jumping right in to the hard work or taking a bit of time to feel comfortable and confident before making big changes or sharing details about the past.
In our first session, we'll review your expectations for therapy and make a plan to help you achieve your goals. I'll address any questions about the therapy process and then discuss what you hope to gain in our time together. You can feel free to share as much or as little as you would like. What's most important is that you begin to feel comfortable and safe and feel heard and understood.
I treat every client as an individual, taking into account their history, preferences, and unique way of thinking and being. I also reject hierarchical views of therapy, treating the client as the expert in their own life and conceptualization of their lived experience. I also believe in the importance of radical authenticity and treat the therapeutic relationship as a real relationship between humans, built on mutual respect, trust, and honesty.
Because I have a strong background in assessment and diagnosis, I frequently work with clients who have spent many years in therapy without seeing positive results. I love helping these individuals "put the pieces together" and understand what is happening in their brains and bodies.
I am attuned to the ways in which trauma affects behavior, relationships, and trust-building. Until a client is able to feel safe, they cannot make progress.
I believe that many issues women face stem not from personal shortcomings, but from systemic oppression. Thus, I look at many presenting symptoms in women through an intersectional feminist lens and encourage my clients to see personal healing and growth as both a personal and political act.
Each client is unique and thus, no single approach will be effective for everyone. I often integrate approaches from DBT, somatic therapies, solution-focused therapy, and narrative therapy, among others.
