Hi, so glad you stopped by! Please call me Cindy. I am a licensed clinical social worker in the states of MA, VT, NJ, VA, NC, SC, TX and FL for telehealth only. I focus on how the events of our childhood, and our life experiences shape the person we are today. How we react, handle stress and the way we show up in our relationships are influenced by the way we view ourselves in those relationships from our past. I am inquisitive, and I use a down to earth style with a holistic approach. I believe that in order to thrive, we must heal from within by providing our body with proper sleep, nurishment, movement, hobbies, spending time with those who provide us safety, and time in nature.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session will begin with a review of your assessments and your history. I am eager to hear our your life, what makes you happy, your hobbies, hopes and dreams and the reason why you decided to come to therapy. I will ask about the specific challenges you are facing and what you want to achieve in therapy. Then together we will work to create the goals you wish to achieve and tailor a specific treatment plan that will produce the results you seek as quickly as possible.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have a variety of tools in my toolbox which have provided positive results to many adults from young professionals to those who are in a later season of life. I often use a combination of trauma-informed therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing. I also believe we may hold the keys to our own success, therefore I also draw information using strength based and solution-focused therapy. I am also in the process of learning about Internal Family Systems and EMDR and how I can used these two EBP in the near future.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with adults who are navigating changes in their life and want the advice and guidance from someone who is non-judgmental and who will be honest. I often help those who are eager to improve, however, they may not know where/how to start, while others may feel stuck, sad, overwhelmed and/or anxious about the recent changes in their lives. I also have extensive experience working with caregivers of elderly parents or a sick spouse, military, veterans and dependents and healthcare workers. I do not work with children, families or couples, however I will provide you with advice on your parenting and relationship struggles if that is why you are coming to therapy or if it becomes your goal.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that stems from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I will help you to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with you inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent you from moving forward in your life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have extensive experience using CBT in practice with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression and trauma/PTSD. Clients who have strained and stressful relationships may also benefit from CBT. CBT helps to determine where the negative thoughts came from, and once the origin of the negative thought is determined, the negative emotions/behaviors can be replaced with more positive ones by working together to challenge the negative thoughts. Positive change comes after you begin to notice that you feel better when you are thinking more positively about yourself and your world.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I often work with BIPOC clients who have close cultural ties to their race and ethnicity. Being a person of color I can relate to the family norms and expectations with in close family cultures and I understand the importance of family and that seeking their approval and asking for their advice is normal. I also know that when we do not get the approval we seek or feel as if we disappointed our family, it can have a lasting negative affect.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

When you are ready, I will sit with you as you uncover your past traumas and I will encourage you, over time to talk about the parts of your past that you are avoiding. As someone who has experienced trauma, I know this can be difficult, however, you will notice that as you continue to talk about the painful events you have been avoiding, you will experience a steady decline to the negative impact the memories have on your life.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I will work with you to quickly find a solution, or in some cases, multiple options to the problem you are facing. I have often used this technique to successfully assist individuals make a decision about which college to attend, a career decision and whether or not to remain in a relationship to name a few. Sometimes, just processing the problem with a neutral third party has helped clients to see a clear path to their decision.
