My name is Cheryl Patton, M.A., LPC, CCM. I am fully licensed as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) with 11 years of experience helping adults and teens crisis anywhere in the state of Texas. Most of my life has been spent in Texas, which includes my master’s level counselor training from The University of Texas at San Antonio. I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. I have worked in variety of community mental health settings which include the local mental health authority, Family Violence & Prevention Services, & Haven for Hope Shelter. A large part of my career I spent at inpatient hospital where I worked with children, teens, adults, veteran's and active duty military. I understand how the daily stressors of work, relationships, family, school, and financial pressures can sometimes feel overwhelming. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in meeting you where you are. Together, we’ll work toward the goals you aspire to, creating a safe, supportive, and empathetic space for healing and growth. I embarked on this journey to provide services to working people of all genders who’ve had trouble fitting in attention to their mental health because of their busy schedules. Virtual therapy allows me to do just that (unless you happen to live near Kenedy, TX) . It offers consistency because it fits the comfort of your home, car, or local park. So, snow, wind, or rain won’t stop us now! All sessions are virtual and I highly recommend you bring along your fur baby, blanket, and favorite beverage to the session.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

You can expect a welcoming, non-judgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are. Our first session is about understanding what brings you in, learning what you’ve been carrying, and beginning to build a connection that feels supportive and real. You’ll be encouraged to share your story at your own pace, and I’ll offer gentle guidance to help you start identifying your goals and needs. The focus is on comfort, clarity, and helping you feel grounded as we begin our work together. I highly encourage you to complete my intake paperwork prior to the first session so that we can spend more time talking about what your currently facing.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I deeply care about the people I work with, and I bring compassion, respect, and curiosity into every session. I meet you where you are, seeing your experiences through a holistic lens and helping you recognize your strengths—even the ones that may feel hidden. My approach is flexible and collaborative so you feel supported in creating meaningful, lasting growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, and neurodivergence. My style is person-centered and humanistic, and I integrate CBT, DBT, mindfulness, brief psychodynamic work, and somatic approaches to support deep healing. While these tools guide our work, the heart of therapy is our connection—because real change happens when you feel safe, understood, and supported.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

In my practice, I take an eclectic approach to counseling, drawing from a variety of evidence-based methods to best meet the unique needs of each client. Rather than relying on a single theoretical orientation, I integrate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns while developing emotional regulation and coping skills. I also incorporate somatic therapy principles to help clients build awareness of the mind–body connection and process emotions through physical experiences. My work is grounded in person-centered and humanistic values, ensuring that clients feel deeply heard, respected, and empowered in their healing process. Additionally, I use solution-focused and narrative therapy strategies to help clients identify strengths, reframe their stories, and move toward meaningful goals. I strive to maintain a culturally sensitive lens, honoring each individual’s background, identity, and worldview. Compassion-focused and motivational interviewing approaches further support clients in building self-compassion, reducing shame, and enhancing motivation for change. Finally, I draw on psychodynamic concepts to explore underlying patterns and gain insight into how past experiences influence current behaviors and relationships. Overall, my eclectic style allows me to tailor treatment to each client’s needs, values, and goals, creating a flexible, collaborative, and holistic counseling experience.
