My name is Latanya. I am a licensed mental counselor in New York. I completed my studies at NYU and have worked and interned in various settings. They range from community preventive work to private practice. Currently, I primarily serve adult individuals and couples. I aim to create a warm and inviting environment, that way my client feels safe and comfortable exploring their thoughts and feelings.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, it truly is all about you. I aim to learn as much as possible about you. This sets the foundation because I am then able to better serve you as the therapeutic relationship strengthens.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my demeanor and willingness to engage with my client in a very authentic way. I am not a clinician who solely listens. I try to make sessions resemble conversations. A conversation where we are both engaged in trying to identify a solution for whatever you may be facing.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have the most experience working with individuals transitioning into "true" adulthood. Think recent graduates or those in their early to mid-20s trying to figure things out. Ultimately, I enjoy helping anyone who is at a crossroads or a major transition point in life. Change can be intimidating at any age or stage in life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I primarily utilize the tenets like establishing a strong therapeutic relationship, setting goals, being culturally appropriate, and collaborating with clients. In order to urge change principles like challenging core beliefs, identifying and reframing negative automatic thoughts, and familiarizing clients with the various cognitive distortions that hinder change.

Integrative

In addition to CBT, I integrate a variety of modalities that include but are not limited to psychodynamic, person-centered, and strength-based therapy. I find that there isn't a one size fits all method, therefore I do my best to be familiar with a variety of methods.
