Hello. I am Alissa Dillon. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in New Hampshire. I am licensed to treat patients in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine. I have over twenty years of experience as a therapist and enjoy working with patients who allow me to learn of their traumatic memories, and allow me to help reprocess them, to begin healing. I specialize in treating grief and trauma. Both of these experiences can leave lasting pain, but my treatment will help to alleviate that pain and remove the emotional responses out of your difficult memories.
On our first session, I enjoy getting to know my patients: where you live, family, employment, etc. Some patients are anxious about a first appointment, worrying about having to talk about difficult/painful issues on their first session. My goal is not to jump right into distressing memories, unless that is what you, the patient, wants. Otherwise, we can get to know each other and develop a mutual trust, so you feel safe to open up and expose your pain.
I am honest and can be direct for patients who may need a little 'push' to work through their issues or history. I am a good listener and truly care about my patients. I am empathic and understand every person will process grief and trauma differently. I like to add a little humor when appropriate. It's always good to laugh.
I treat adults with PTSD/Grief symptoms are having difficulty with sadness, nightmares or flashbacks. Sometimes a loss is so devastating or traumatic. EMDR is a quick and effective treatment for trauma, often within a few sessions. I also specialize in treating Veterans and First Responders who could benefit from trauma treatment, due to the difficult memories or events that continue to cause disruption to daily functioning.
