My name is Joanna Smith. I have had the honor and a privilege to have worked with clients for over 20 years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Most of my work has been in the health care setting where I worked supporting people who faced chronic illness. I have also worked with families in a family health clinic. Additionally, I have provided and coordinated mental health treatment in a primary care setting providing problem solving treatment to improve patients’ symptoms and level of functioning. I have also provided support to employees in corporate settings in my role as employee assistance program consultant.
I offer compassionate and supportive care while working to assist clients to shift to an improved level of functioning through support and the establishment of goals. I work in collaboration with clients to explore solutions to the problems they are currently facing.
I am an empathetic and compassionate counselor who works to actively shift clients to an improved level of functioning. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist clients in resolving the issues they are presently experiencing.
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated for change and who are open to challenging present belief systems which may be limiting them or causing suffering. I enjoy working with clients who are willing to challenge their negative thought and belief systems. I enjoy working with individuals who are open to working collaboratively to solve problems with solution focused counseling which incorporates goal setting and behavioral activation plans for improved mood and overall functioning.

I have worked within the collaborative care model of treatment in a large hospital setting. I work with clients to challenge negative thoughts to improve feelings and behavior. Additionally I work with clients to establish behavioral activation plans for improved mood.
