My name is Dr. Mahsa Mafee, and I also go by Emily; I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and also have my doctorate degree; For the past ten years, I have worked with a wide range of population of clients; I view therapy as a collaborative and multifaceted journey; Therapy can be painful but also a rewarding experience; At times, it may even be the ultimate path that brings a sense of transformation, healing, and enlightenment; I am also bilingual, fluent in both English and Farsi and can conduct therapy in both languages; I am also an immigrant who moved to the U.S at a young age; This has given me the advantage to be exposed to two different cultures, and has helped shape my overall outlook and perspective when it comes to the world. It has made me a stronger person, and has definitely made me a better psychotherapist in the way that I understand and conceptualize diversity and how I relate and connect to people from different backgrounds;

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I believe everybody is unique and has a story to tell. My biggest strength is my openness to hear those stories and my ability to provide a safe space for clients to be seen and heard without feeling judged. I believe active listening and empathy are key to making emotional connection with people which leads to a trusting bond where clients can express their emotions in a raw fashion. Although skills and knowledge of the therapist are important, I genuinely believe clients are also instrumental in this process; Often times, we have the answers but don't have the tools to access those answers; I can be the guide that provides the insight that provides a better understanding of oneself, so one can make conscious, autonomous choices, and eventually find healing and contentment;

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I am knowledgeable and trained with various psychotherapy modalities such as depth psychotherapy/Jungian analytical therapy, psychodynamic, CBT, humanistic, Rogerian/client centered, solution focused, etc. Although I use a holistic approach as a general theoretical frame, I choose to work eclectically based on my clients' needs, pace, and circumstances, and I use my judgment to apply my skills and knowledge of those methods accordingly.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a great listener and I am also bilingual (fluent in English and Farsi/Persian); I work really well with young adults and I have a unique way of connecting with people; I have worked with many different populations who have struggled with anxiety, depression, life transition, immigration issues, stress management, domestic violence and codependency; different types of abuse and trauma related to abuse (sexual, emotional, and physical); bereavement issues, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and parenting. I am also a mother of two young boys and that has tremendously helped me with my experience and the way I relate to many parents who struggle with daily stress to manage child care, relationships, and careers;
