I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from Old Dominion University, and Master in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have experience working with individuals and families across the lifespan in a variety of settings to include hospital, outpatient, and community/in-home, both for not for profit and private sectors. I have experience in working with youth and adults who have experienced trauma, relationship challenges, and family structure/separation challenges. Other areas of expertise include career stress and burnout, culturally sensitive identity/esteem building, depression, anxiety, adjusting to life changes, and assistance with improving daily functioning. I partner with individuals and families to explore or make sense of what they are experiencing, and to collaborate on productive steps to reach their goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first meeting, we would begin with brief introductions and a discussion of what to expect with services such as confidentiality and the therapeutic relationship. Then we would explore what you would like services to look like and identify what challenges and goals you would like to address.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with a wide range of populations and their experiences, I truly like to focus on the person I am working with to develop the most personalized services possible. I assist with gaining insight into the patterns of, and the root cause of, challenges as well as highlighting the strengths every individual has and can build off of.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Working with individuals and families in partnership, with empathy, honesty, and unconditional positive regard. I assist with self-exploration/understanding to help gain clear understanding and psychological growth.

Compassion Focused

This method is used to assist individuals to reduce feelings of shame or self-criticism while increasing self-acceptance and self-compassion.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

This approach emphasizes the importance and value of cultural values, norms, and context within treatment and the therapeutic relationship. Important steps are taken to accommodate and respect different elements of identity, values, opinions, and other culturally sensitive norms.

Motivational Interviewing

This method assists individuals with resolving difficult or insecure feelings related to the motivation to change a particular behavior. This is often helpful for individuals in self-exploration of their own behaviors and motivating drives.

Trauma-Focused CBT

An evidence-based treatment that assists individuals and families to address the effects of early trauma. Especially helpful for children/adolescents, and their caretakers, who have experienced complex trauma or have been diagnosed with PTSD or a mood disorder as a result.
