Hi! I'm April. Are you struggling in a relationship? Do you have a history of trauma or abuse? Are you having a hard time finding anyone who understands you and what it has been like to be you? Are you struggling to feel like yourself again? I am a professional counselor with over 20 years experience. But more importantly, I am a real person who has lived through challenges too. I'm a mom of adult twin daughters, I love animals, golf, Jeeps, DIY and remodeling projects, being outside and all things artistic. I'm a former teacher, tattoo artist, singer in a rock cover band, horse trainer, and an overall goofball who loves taking risks and trying new things. I live my life on my terms. I believe that finding power in the things that make you "YOU" is the the key to mental wellbeing and recovery from trauma. I am not a perfect person, but I live an authentic life, and I'd love to help you live your best life too. I am a trauma survivor, have struggled with PTSD, depression, and anxiety, and have been through divorce. I'm an expert on trauma, relationships, depression, anxiety, and parenting. I like to think of myself as a master at rebuilding after struggles, and I use a lot of humor and compassion to help my people do the same. It's important to me that my clients feel like they are talking to a real person who has faced challenges too. I may be an expert on mental health, but you are the expert on you. So come on in, pull up a chair, and let's team up to build up something amazingly "YOU" together. My areas of expertise include PTSD, trauma and abuse recovery, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+, marriage/relationships, and parenting. I work with ages 14 and over.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session I like to review any questions you have about therapy and get to know you. I will ask you questions about any symptoms you are having and things that may be impacting those symptoms both past and present. We talk about anything that you think is important for me to know in order to understand you better. I tell people a little about myself, my approach, and what to expect from me as your therapist. We discuss the things that brought you to therapy, and we start to form a plan of what we are going to do as a team in order to help you reach your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I enjoy working with people in recovery from PTSD and trauma, with couples, and with anyone struggling to find their power. I have recovered from multiple traumas, and I feel it gives me a deeper more personal understanding. I am a very laid back and creative person, I feel that one of my strengths is forming relationships with my clients, making them feel comfortable, and giving them insight into their concerns so that they feel like they have power to overcome.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I use a person centered and trauma informed approach that integrates CBT, IFS informed, and principles from Gottman theory. The techniques I choose to use are based on what my clients and I determine to be the best approach for their personality and needs in treatment. If one approach does not work, we discuss other ways of approaching their concerns together. Team work and collaboration with my clients about what works for them and does not work for them is very important to me.
