Hello, I am Sonnet Daymont, an LMFT licensed in California. I work primarily with people seeking help overcoming anxiety and trauma symptoms, as well as those needing support during life transitions. Right now my calendar is full, but if you reach out to me personally, I can add you to my waitlist. I have worked in private practice settings for 6 years. Prior to that I worked in high schools, safe houses, and hospitals in a counseling capacity. I have multiple undergraduate degrees in therapy related fields (Child and Adolescent Development, Psychology with a concentration in Human Sexuality) from San Francisco State University, as well as experience as a teaching fellow through Tufts University and book publisher Pearson. In addition, I have obtained advanced studies leading to an art therapy based life coach certification, and a masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco. I continue to receive training in advanced therapy practices, including in CBT, EMDR, MBSR, Existential Therapy, Feminist theory, and Positive Psychology. Also, I have a little therapy dog (a Cavalier King Charles) that often sits in the background of sessions with me.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
In our first session, I will start off by asking about your goals and what you would like to get out of therapy. I will also ask what you know about therapy, and what you would like in our relationship together. We will then create a collaborative treatment plan and decide together from there what our agenda working together will look like. Each person is individual. Some clients like a lot of homework and book recommendations, others like to process in real time. I am a former teacher and continue to study multiple modalities of therapy. That experience can make therapy with me easier to absorb and take in quickly, for different styles of learners. I will be paying attention to how you best learn and ask you questions about that too. I welcome clients to ask anything they would like about my background and how we can work together.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I stay current in research and treatment for anxiety and trauma, and meet with consultants, continuing to hone my craft through regular trainings. I usually read 3-5 books per week related to those topics, and I chose this field because I genuinely enjoy watching people heal and grow.
