I have 20 years of experience counseling a diverse array of adult clients. In my office, each person is treated as the unique individual they are without judgment or comparison. I start by listening to understand your story, your strengths, your needs, and your goals. I will work with you to identify techniques and strategies to cope with depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, parenting concerns, substance abuse recovery, difficulty setting boundaries, low self-esteem, caregiving stress, grief, work-life balance stress, and other life challenges. We will work together to build a toolbox of healthy coping strategies and skills that will lead you to reach your goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The goal of the first session is to build a relationship and trust between you and I. My goal is to do a lot of listening so that I can understand your personal story, what your concerns are, what your goals and hopes are, what your support network looks like, what has worked well for you in the past, what hasn't worked in the past. Then together, we'll identify goals and create a plan for our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I bring with me vast experience providing supportive and problem-solving counseling. I have worked as an Employee Assistance Counselor for the Department of Defense, US Patent and Trademark Office, Washington Gas, and many other private companies. That experience has given me a unique ability to quickly build rapport and connect with a wide range of ages, genders, religions, cultures, relationship statuses, socioeconomic status, and more . I also have unique expertise in understanding the impact of work on our lives and a lot of experience helping adults create personalized work-life balance and stress management plans to ensure their continued health and success. I have experience certifying FMLA and Short Term Disability (STD) claims with insurance companies.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Through CBT interventions we will explore automatic thoughts, underlying beliefs, and begin to reprogram thinking to create healthier perspectives and thinking patterns.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-Based therapy allows clients to learn to embrace quiet, release built up stress chemicals stored in the body and gives an opportunity to experience peace and clarity in decision making and activities.

Supportive

Providing validation, accountability, and encouragement allows us to partner together, build trust and rapport. This is fundamental to the success of our interaction and creating a safe environment for change and healing.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a key part of learning to understand how one's brain works as well as how our body reacts to stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, and other feelings. Pyschoeducation also includes lessons that will help a client self-regulate and be successful after therapy on their own.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Often clients come into therapy with a triggering event and active distress. Solution focused brief treatment may be used initially to help with symptom reduction and improved mood. Once active distress is lessened, then other approaches can be used to identify and heal the underlying or triggering concerns of a client.
