I am a licensed clinical social worker, licensed in Florida, Texas, Iowa and Wisconsin, who has worked in outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential and inpatient settings, in mental health, addiction and eating disorder fields. My approach in therapy integrates holistic, expressive, developmental attachment theory and traditional evidence-based approaches. I have had a broad experience working with children, teens, emergent adults, as well as parents and families. Prior to graduate school, I worked in the art field and continues to integrate expressive arts into her practice with clients. I received my Master of Clinical Social Work degree from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2014. During graduate school and since graduation, my focus has been on trauma resolution. Julia was initially trained in trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy and now in Rapid Resolution therapy, which is an approach that achieves memory reconsolidation, without re-traumatization in as few as 1-2 sessions. I was trained in Rapid Resolution therapy in 2017 and have used the techniques with clients in a variety of settings. Although I enjoy working with clients on a variety of issues, my specialization is in eating disorders, mood and trauma-related disorders with 3+ years experience working in higher levels of care in the eating disorder field. I am passionate about helping my clients find body liberation, food freedom and recovery from eating disorders. Follow: IG @juliathompsontherapy

Hi there, I'm Farah Ali. I am a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, and dedicated advocate for my clients. My educational foundation is based in psychology and social justice, having earned my master's degree in social work with a dual concentration in community practice and clinical mental health. Driven by a strong commitment to human rights and social justice, I am dedicated to advocating for every individual I work with and the communities I am part of. My Core Principles as a Therapist: Focusing on Strengths & Empowerment: Central to our work is helping you to more deeply connect to—and really use—your inherent strengths. This means looking for growth opportunities where some might find roadblocks and accessing both internal and external resources to help you make the changes you want to see in your life. Working for Comprehensive Wellness: Therapy is a place where we can work toward mental and emotional wellness, learn how to foster positive relationships, and discover a greater sense of balance and ease in your day-to-day life. Promoting Connection & Authenticity: The relationship we have is vital, which is why I work hard to make sure our relationship is a nurturing space for meaningful growth. Creating Safety in Being Seen: I strive to make our sessions a place where every emotion is valued, encouraged, and supported—yes, even the “bad” or “undesirable” emotions. This is the space we cultivate together in our work, and space that is here to help you more deeply see yourself, and be seen in your authenticity.

Have you ever looked at your reflection and wondered who you are? Do you ever feel lost or wonder where you are headed? CONFESSION -- I have. I realized later in life that my calling was to become a therapist. I received on-the-job training, long before I went to college, through my own experiences as a mother, wife, friend, colleague, and personally, as an individual with depression and anxiety. These experiences helped prepare me for my role as a therapist. My own struggles have enabled me to better connect with my clients. Just like my clients, I looked for a therapist to talk to, one who would listen and understand where I was coming from. Finding a therapist can be a challenge. The challenge involves talking to a complete stranger about your life while discussing some of the hardest times of your life. From personal experience, I know the gains that can be made in therapy and the road to self-discovery. Treatment Focus I have experience working with a wide variety of populations and specialize in helping adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and bipolar disorder. My primary approach in working with clients tends to be person-centered along with cognitive behavioral therapy. Core beliefs are areas of focus I encourage clients to explore. Oftentimes, individuals may not recognize how their thinking patterns have affected numerous areas in their life. I help clients to conceptualize the life that they want and consider the action steps to make that life happen. Yes, therapy can take time and effort, but if the payoff is discovering the best version of yourself, then is it not worth it? Patient Promise One thing that I can ensure, is that I will provide a safe space for you to discover beliefs. Beliefs that you may have about yourself and the world around you. I am passionate about helping individuals explore who they are and what they want. If you are ready to begin this journey, I would be honored to work with you.

At the Child & Adult Behavior Center, we help both adults and children, as well as parents. For adults, we help you find ways to cope with stress, anxiety, loss and depression. Not only talking through and understanding, but also concrete "what to do about it" coping skills, lead to calmer, more stable emotions and relationships. We find cognitive behavioral therapy very useful, and within that, learning the skills of mindfulness, a form of in-the-moment meditative thinking, to calm and focus the mind when emotions overtake. This fosters a new way of viewing and handling stressful situations as they arise. For children's therapy, we work with you, and with your child. Parents' feedback is a critical part of helping children feel and do better. We help you with parent-child interactions to find your way as you navigate the seas of child behavior. Our specializations are the treatment for Aspergers/autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, emotional self regulation, the behavioral and emotional aspects of sensory issues, anxiety and depression. Our special programs also treat a wide range of neuroatypical, developmentally challenged children. Neuro-typical parent-child relationships, family relations, and parenting issues for all children and teens are also our focus. We help - you help your child - with ideas and techniques to put into action. Ideas that can greatly reduce the stress and storm of being a parent in the trenches. Peace in the home is possible!

I am a second career social worker, who graduated with my MSW in 2014 and my Ph.D. in 2019, both from the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, but have lived in the Houston area for 30+ years. I decided to become a social worker because of my personal experiences raising a child with behavioral health issues and experiencing profound loss following the sudden death of my husband. My goals were to help others the way my own family had been helped, but I also hoped to improve the experiences of others with similar lived experiences but less positive outcomes. I have worked in a variety of settings, including West Oaks Hospital (a specialty psychiatric hospital) and its affiliated outpatient settings, where I provided individual, group, and family therapy to adults and adolescents experiencing significant mental health crises. I have also worked in home hospice care, assisting individuals and families with both pre-bereavement and post-bereavement support, and where I facilitated online support groups for caregivers and for individuals experiencing grief and bereavement. In addition to my private practice, I am an adjunct professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work, and I frequently consult with immigration lawyers about the ways in which mental health issues may impact the path to asylum or citizenship. Although I do not consider myself to be a trauma specialist, I do practice with a trauma-informed style and am always conscious of the ways in which trauma impacts the lives and experiences of individuals in all walks of life. I have experience working with people who live with ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, and mood disorders generally. My goal is always to support my clients in achieving their own goals for a happier and healthier life.
