She has worked at inpatient adult and adolescent psychiatric hospitals in Ohio for 8 years along with managing her private therapy practice and teaching at The Ohio State University. Her career at the WPB VA Medical Center offered her the opportunity to work with Veterans in the following capacities over that 10 year period; as a Mental Health Therapist, Program Manager of Post Deployment Clinic and the Care Giver Support Program, Supervisor of Homeless Programs and Supervisor over programs serving Veterans with serious mental health conditions. In addition to working at the WPB VA Medical Center, she worked in private practice in Jupiter, FL. She has published two books, one on relationships and another on managing depression. She has written a couples interactive co-journal and is also working on publishing other journal series for situation-specific healing journals for life events such as healing post affair, moving forward after the end of a relationship, healing after death of a partner; to name a few. She has published multiple articles on relationships, depression, improving well-being, thriving during and after a serious health issue and reducing acute stress response. She has a YouTube Channel, “Therapy with Karen Collins” where she posts peaceful places, guided meditations, provoking ideas to consider and a segment on managing acute stress response and improving overall well-being to teach how to prevent over-responding to stressors. She has provided therapy virtually for over 11 years (long before it was trending as a popular method) and she is a MDLIVE provider joining that company in the beginning of their virtual platform launch. The past few years have proven that virtual therapy is an effective method of providing therapy removing additional barriers such as drive time, inconvenience, lack of child care, etc. to accessing needed services.

As a seasoned therapist my experience includes a wide spectrum of mental health issues. I have a network of physicians, mental health providers, and spiritual advisors whose counsel I seek to help provide the best care for my clients. It is my goal to lead clients to ask the right questions and help them find answers that will result in a positive, forward movement in the therapeutic process. My main focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but use other modalities when necessary to help clients achieve the change they are seeking. My practice involves, but is not exclusive to, marriage and family counseling, depression, anxiety, bipolar issues, LGBTQ issues, aging issues, workplace issues, mediation etc. I also provide faith based counseling when requested. My practice is open to all regardless of who they are or the issues for which they may be seeking guidance. My goal is to help clients move forward positively, finding coping skills that work well for them. If in the process I or the client determine I am not the right fit, my self esteem is not tied to it. I will help them find someone who may work better for helping them to achieve their goals.

Hello, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the states of Texas and Tennessee with 30 years of counseling and ministry experience. I began as a minister of the Gospel in the Southern Baptist tradition in 1993 working with the homeless to overcome the struggles of addiction and hopelessness in North Carolina and Tennessee. From there, I became a case manager in a rural oupatient behavioral health clinic helping the chronically mentally ill live independently outside of the institutional settings. As my family of five children grew, my wife encouraged me to join the military in 2007 and for the next 13 years we served alongside our Soldiers and their Families as a chaplain. There, I learned through experience how to work through the stress of multiple transitions, the unyeilding demands for time and energy, and the unjust nature of toxic environments. I learned how to support those who wanted to strengthen themselves and their relationships in these environments and to ultimately be at peace with who they are and who they want to be. As I have matured in my training and become licensed in marriage and family therapy, I have found that I now specialize in using Solution Focused therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals identify their strengths and the beliefs that are guiding their behavior. With this knowledge, people can begin to choose who they want to be.

Are you feeling stressed out, zoned out, or off-balance? Do you feel like you're drowning under the weight of responsibilities, while others seem to be thriving? Have you been using social media, toxic relationships, or substances to numb or distract yourself from the discomfort? I'd love to try and help you find your footing and feel more like yourself again. Most of the clients I work with have a lot more in common than they realize. They are struggling...but they believe they SHOULD be able to manage everything! They believe they are somehow flawed or weaker than others. I want you to know it’s okay to be struggling. Prolonged stress and trauma from things like the Covid pandemic, social and political unrest, racism, homophobia, and bullying can greatly impact our mental and physical health. Anxiety, depression, or trauma symptoms may be showing up as a way to say, “Hey, I’m not okay right now. I need to talk about this.” I am here to listen and help you navigate tough situations like these. I have a background in both mental health and medical social work. I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, hospitals, community agencies, and addiction centers. My specialties are grief and loss, mood disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, addiction/ recovery, and chronic illness/pain. I have worked in this field for over twenty years, and I am more passionate than ever about helping others. I look forward to meeting you soon!
