Hello, I am an LCSW and have been in practice for 30+ years. I have worked in multiple settings and have learned that no one goes through life without challenges. Sometimes those challenges become overwhelming, and we find ourselves full of anger, fear, anxiety, confusion or deep sadness. You are not alone in this. If you are seeking therapy for the first time or have been in therapy before, please know that this is a safe place for you. All of us want to find a place of peace and joy in our life, but sometimes it feels like we are lost in a forest. I want to help you find your way out of that, to recognize your own path. I have a strong belief that we are in a constant state of change and adaptation in life and the secret is to realize and own our personal power. Peace is accomplished through balance, boundaries and new beginnings; those three work together and empower you. I look forward to helping you begin this next step of your journey and to find your power in that.

Hi, I'm Dr. Nate. Do you find yourself feeling sad, empty, or unmotivated? Do you struggle with anxiety, anger, or behavior you just can't stop? Do you have a child who is struggling or a marriage that could be better? Life presents challenges and sometimes we or the ones we love could use some extra help getting through those challenges successfully. For over fifteen years, I have provided therapy and psychological testing in a variety of settings from private practices to doctor's offices, college counseling centers, and community mental health. My approach is to combine the best of psychotherapy with Christian theology to help others live the abundant life that is found in Jesus. I believe the mind, body, and spirit can all have an impact on a person's functioning, and it's my approach to address those areas that are limiting one's functioning.

At the Child & Adult Behavior Center, we help both adults and children, as well as parents. For adults, we help you find ways to cope with stress, anxiety, loss and depression. Not only talking through and understanding, but also concrete "what to do about it" coping skills, lead to calmer, more stable emotions and relationships. We find cognitive behavioral therapy very useful, and within that, learning the skills of mindfulness, a form of in-the-moment meditative thinking, to calm and focus the mind when emotions overtake. This fosters a new way of viewing and handling stressful situations as they arise. For children's therapy, we work with you, and with your child. Parents' feedback is a critical part of helping children feel and do better. We help you with parent-child interactions to find your way as you navigate the seas of child behavior. Our specializations are the treatment for Aspergers/autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, emotional self regulation, the behavioral and emotional aspects of sensory issues, anxiety and depression. Our special programs also treat a wide range of neuroatypical, developmentally challenged children. Neuro-typical parent-child relationships, family relations, and parenting issues for all children and teens are also our focus. We help - you help your child - with ideas and techniques to put into action. Ideas that can greatly reduce the stress and storm of being a parent in the trenches. Peace in the home is possible!

Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker helping individuals in the states of Illinois, Texas, and South Carolina. My experience includes working with families who have experienced abuse, neglect, and court issues. I have also worked as a hospice social worker. My role was to support families, provide education related to the end-of-life process, and support families as they prepare to say goodbye to those they love. I have also worked in public schools providing assessments/evaluations for students who might be struggling in an academic setting, preparing IEPs, providing classroom social-emotional education, and individual social work services to students who might be experiencing difficulties with peer relationships, bullying, anger, anxiety, and many other issues that can impact a student's ability to learn and flourish in an educational setting. I have been in private practice for several years, serving children and adults experiencing challenges related to depression, anxiety, relationships, and grief. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a major component of my treatment approach. This is an evidence-based treatment approach that provides client-specific tools and interventions. Together, we will identify triggers and learn ways to reduce the physical and mental symptoms you might be experiencing. I was raised in a military family and have lived in multiple states, and while that often came with some adjustments, it also brought so many new opportunities to learn about community, culture, and forge new relationships.

Hello, I was born and raised in Stockton, California. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and in 1997, after 25 yeas of service, I retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked as a Farrier (Horseshoer), as well as a structural welder (Ironworker), as those were the most marketable skill that I had. I came to a point where old injuries came back to haunt me and I could no longer walk (several years later, thanks to a surgery through the VA, I can walk again; thankful for that). At this point, I changed professions and out of a desire to work with veterans, I returned to school, accomplishing all that was necessary to become a licensed counselor. I spent another career working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically as a counselor in the Readjustment Counseling Service (Vet Center). I recently retired from the Vet Center and now I work part-time here with Grow Therapy. As a retired Marine senior staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) and disabled combat veteran myself, the Vet Center was the perfect job. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling to combat veterans and provide counseling to survivors of military sexual trauma (MST). Vet Centers also provide group counseling, bereavement counseling and couples counseling when this is determined to be of support to the veteran. Readjustment counseling many times consists of treating/addressing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress (PTSD), I.e., anxiety, depression, exaggerated startle response, hypervigilance, sleep disturbance, etc. Many veterans go on to work as first responders and working with many first responders as well as medical personal, has provided me with a great deal of additional experience.

You are a woman who has been devastated by grief over pregnancy loss, infertility, or postpartum depression and anxiety. You desperately want to find someone to talk to about how alone and sad you feel. You feel heartbroken, ashamed, and angry lately. Your world has stopped while everyone else seems to be living their best life. You find yourself having the same fights with your partner over and over again. Society glamorizes pregnancy and motherhood which can make you feel even more alone and misunderstood. If you see one more pregnancy announcement or social media post about the happiness of motherhood, you might lose it! Your baby is important to you no matter how much time you have spent with them. You want to learn how to keep your baby’s memory alive. You want to learn how to experience happiness during this new transition to motherhood. You want to feel heard by someone without shame or judgment. You are not alone. As a woman, I have been there.

I am a second career social worker, who graduated with my MSW in 2014 and my Ph.D. in 2019, both from the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, but have lived in the Houston area for 30+ years. I decided to become a social worker because of my personal experiences raising a child with behavioral health issues and experiencing profound loss following the sudden death of my husband. My goals were to help others the way my own family had been helped, but I also hoped to improve the experiences of others with similar lived experiences but less positive outcomes. I have worked in a variety of settings, including West Oaks Hospital (a specialty psychiatric hospital) and its affiliated outpatient settings, where I provided individual, group, and family therapy to adults and adolescents experiencing significant mental health crises. I have also worked in home hospice care, assisting individuals and families with both pre-bereavement and post-bereavement support, and where I facilitated online support groups for caregivers and for individuals experiencing grief and bereavement. In addition to my private practice, I am an adjunct professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work, and I frequently consult with immigration lawyers about the ways in which mental health issues may impact the path to asylum or citizenship. Although I do not consider myself to be a trauma specialist, I do practice with a trauma-informed style and am always conscious of the ways in which trauma impacts the lives and experiences of individuals in all walks of life. I have experience working with people who live with ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, and mood disorders generally. My goal is always to support my clients in achieving their own goals for a happier and healthier life.

Is it hard to be kind to yourself or to tell yourself that you are doing all that you can? Together, we can build a safe place so that we can find what's not working for you and get you back to a place where your mind, body, and spirit feel at ease. All of this comes from a strength based, trauma informed, culturally informed perspective where we will identify your strengths and your plan to help yourself heal. My name is Ann Kimbrough Johnson (otherwise known as Kim) and I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 24 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, families and individuals of diverse backgrounds. My treatment approach utilizes my diverse skill set and is based on a thorough assessment of my client’s goals and related needs. This individualized approach enables me to understand and meet my clients where they are and get them to where they need/want to be. I graduated with my Masters’ Degree in Social Work at the University of Houston, Texas. Since that time, I have devoted myself to the field of mental health by empowering clients to develop the inner strength and related skills they need to endure and overcome life’s many challenges. Life frequently can seem unfair and confusing. I understand that this can leave you feeling lost, overwhelmed, and wondering why. I recognize that despite the different experiences we encounter on our journey, the goals are virtually the same. We are all looking for our own kind of understanding, inner-peace, self-love, happiness and healing. I know how to get you there and would be honored to help. Finally, my shout out to you about considering and possibly embarking on this journey. Seeking mental health care makes you stronger. When you allow yourself to be open and share yourself with all your strengths and vulnerabilities you can find the part of you that you thought you lost or would never have. Anything is possible. Congratulations for getting this far! The decision about what path to take is yours but, always, remember to thine own self be true.

I was in the United States Marine Corps from 1998-2003 and during this time I learned a great deal about myself and became more culturally diverse. During my third year of service, I was injured at Officers Candidate School and realized that I needed to develop my counseling skills, so I worked with an agency that counseled teens regarding their addiction. I have been in the social services field for the past twenty years and have been licensed for the past 10 years. When I got out of the Marines in 2003, I went home to North Carolina and my father passed away three days later unexpectedly so, I needed a job and I was able to use my previous years working with teens and became a supervisor at Sipes Orchard Home took in unwanted children from parents, Level II and Level IV agencies, and the Department of Children and Families. After being here at this facility for two years I left as they weren't following the Medicaid standards. I left the agency and went to work for The Cognitive Connection as the Prevention Supervisor providing preventive services for teens and was part of the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) providing groups to adults. I worked with Cognitive Connection for three years and left to go to Pensacola, Florida because I had heard they were starting a MSW program. I felt hopeful as I knew getting my master’s in social work would change my life forever. After I finished the MSW program I immediately started working for Lakeview Services in Adult Outpatient Community Mental Health and then worked in the Drug Court program. I stayed here for three years until I got a job with the DoD in Oklahoma because my wife was trying to get a federal job, so I moved to support her and my family. While working with the DoD I was able to get my supervision for licensing, created an anger management program for the DoD, and stayed until my LCSW license was finalized in December of 2013. When I came back to Florida I worked for Volunteers of America for a couple of years until a federal job opened at Veterans Affairs in Pensacola, FL, in August of 2016. I have been licensed in Florida for the past 10 years, recently became licensed in Texas and Oklahoma. I have some clients who are in therapy with me for several weeks to several months depending on their individual needs. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!

Everyone needs therapy. Some of us just choose to distract ourselves with the day-to-day madness. The problem with this is that life will eventually slow you down and you are unable to use those distractions. This is typically when you may feel hit hard by anxiety, panic, and depression. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over nine years of professional experience. In 2015, I completed my master’s degree from West Texas A&M. I began my professional career with the Pavilion, an inpatient psychiatric hospital where I conducted individual, group, and family therapy. For the past seven years, I have worked with geriatric patients in an intensive outpatient program. I also do individual and couples counseling.
