I’m a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania, and I have been practicing for about a decade now. I enjoy working with my clients on cognitive behavioral therapy approaches along with dialectical behavioral therapy, and also motivational interviewing tactics as well. I do NOT do couples therapy anymore. I also do NOT work with children or teens anymore, thank you! I work best with clients who are ready to explore beneath the surface and commit to longer-term growth. My style of therapy includes the importance of mind/body, physical, spiritual, and emotional health. I truly love/enjoy neuroscience (overall brain health education) and have multiple trainings in this. I enjoy teaching my clients about the importance of brain health and how the body functions with the brain, and how certain mental health traits happen based on the chemistry of the brain, along with encouraging clients to practice self care, emotional regulation, and being able to think about ways of exercising healthy brain health. Your health is wealth! :)

My approach is practical, I work from a cognitive perspective using cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical therapy, exposure response prevention, and positive psychology.

“We deeply long for connection, to be seen and known for who we are without rejection. But we are terrified of the vulnerability that is required for that very contact” – Curt Thompson, The Soul of Shame. Do you wonder if your presence really matters? Is it easy for you to extend grace and compassion to those around you, but difficult to do the same for yourself? Maybe you long to be truly known and loved as your authentic self, but vulnerability scares you or you don’t even know how to begin. And maybe you aren’t even sure who you really are. Therapy creates a space where you can ask questions, get curious, and more deeply learn about yourself, giving you the power to make choices that set the course for a more fulfilling life.

Sometimes you just can't. You have been trying so hard for so long but you feel like a failure. You just don't adult like other people. This can show up looking like Anxiety, Depression or even stuff like OCD or Social Anxiety symptoms. Often this pain relates to trauma. It could be a history of very serious abuse with PTSD or just painful life experiences you assumed were not such a big deal. This is where I can help. I love to use my skills to help people who are wrestling with emotional pain and daily life struggles. I want you to see yourself and the world in a new way. To stop experiencing days that feel like a dumpster fire. To feel hopeful about your life. To feel safe.To accept your imperfections and like yourself anyhow. When we work together it probably won't be like other therapy you have tried. We will work on your timeline. We will also focus on what matters. I am trained in therapies that address your thinking and your emotions. I use several forms of Cognitive therapy, EMDR, and Ericksonian (non-directive) Hypnosis.

Everyone deserves to feel heard and believed. One of my first goals in working with you will be to discuss how to create a space and relationship where you feel safe and respected while coming up with a plan to meet your unique needs. Therapy with me is not a place where you are given band-aids. While many techniques I employ can help in the immediate, our goal is to find long-lasting change. This may be uncomfortable or difficult at times, but through that discomfort comes deeper understanding and insight, and ultimately a more healed and meaningful existence. Every human being is unique and you deserve to experience therapy that fits your unique needs rather than a one sized fits all approach. I am trained in a variety of evidence based treatment methods including CBT, DBT, ACT, and trauma informed modalities and will work with you in our sessions to find what works best for you.

I’m a licensed professional counselor and a doctoral student in counseling psychology. My work centers around helping individuals heal from complex trauma, explore their identities, and develop deeper insight into their relational and emotional worlds. I specialize in working with adults navigating attachment wounds, anxiety, self-worth challenges, and LGBTQ+ experiences. My therapeutic style is relational, trauma-informed, and depth-oriented. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, and parts work, integrating these with evidence-based approaches like EMDR and mindfulness when appropriate. I believe that real healing happens in the context of safe, attuned relationships, and that therapy can be a space to explore and reflect. In sessions, I focus on helping clients understand the “why” behind their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We explore early experiences and internalized beliefs, as well as the ways these still play out in present relationships and daily life. I also work collaboratively to build practical tools and foster a more compassionate internal dialogue. I'm especially committed to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, those navigating complicated family relationships, and people working through questions of identity, belonging, and emotional safety. Whether you're beginning therapy for the first time or returning with fresh insight, I strive to meet you where you are with curiosity, honesty, and care. Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s about creating space to feel, question, remember, and reclaim. If you’re looking for a therapist who brings both clinical depth and human connection to the work, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

Are you faced with emotional challenges, do you long for clarity on the how, the why, and the what to do, and because understanding is always that one step closer to your healing I will help you answer the tough questions. I have 31 years of experience providing counseling. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, stressing that what we think determines what we feel and what we do. For many reasons, people learn unrealistic or destructive thoughts that cause them problems in their lives. Therapy works towards more realistic thinking, and avoiding old and destructive thinking. As I like to say, "therapy is a conversation with a destination," and realistic thinking is that destination. While I am a Christian, I am not trained as a Christian Counselor. I am a "Counselor who is a Christian." My training is secular, and I regularly see people or all faiths, or none at all. I do not offer court ordered services, nor do I do assessments for custody, or any other legal purpose. Unfortunately, I cannot accept Medicare, or Medicare based plans. The world is changing, and more and more people are reaching out. I am seeing more men that have been in abusive relationships. There are also more people dealing with loss. Coming to my office is not like going to a big mental health clinic where you just another number on a spreadsheet. In my care, you are a person, and you'll be treated like one.

Hi, I'm a licensed clinical social worker based in northeast Pennsylvania with over 25 years experience as a psychotherapist. I received my bachelors degree from Swarthmore College, my masters degree from Columbia University School of Social Work and I completed a post graduate fellowship in psychiatry at the Yale University Psychiatric Institute. Over the years I've worked with clients of all ages struggling with a wide variety of disorders. Primarily, I help adults 18+ who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and alcohol use disorders. I view our work together as a collaborative venture where I help you to identify troublesome thoughts and behaviors and replace them with positive ones. We will accomplish this utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and other forms of therapy as needed.

I bring over 20 years of experience in the mental health field and am passionate about providing trauma-informed care to every client I work with. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of supporting children, teens, young adults, parents, and families in a wide variety of diverse settings — from community-based programs to clinical environments — and I deeply value the unique strengths, stories, and challenges that each individual brings. In my work, I believe that therapy is most effective when it’s individualized. Together, we will identify your personal strengths, explore what has been helpful for you in the past, and develop a plan that is tailored specifically to your needs, goals, and values. I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, always keeping you at the center of the process, and work collaboratively to find what feels most effective and supportive for you. As your therapist, my commitment is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and I strive to build a strong, trusting connection where you can explore challenges, build resilience, and move toward meaningful growth and healing. Whether you are navigating past trauma, managing stress or anxiety, facing life transitions, or seeking greater self-understanding, I am here to walk alongside you — helping you uncover your strengths and supporting you every step of the way.

Hello. My name is John. I bring with me over 27 years of doing therapy. In addition to clinical psychology, I have backgrounds and education in music education, philosophy, spirituality and religion. My background and life experience gives me an ability to seek a larger picture of situations in life and offer unique resolutions to things that may occur in the course of one's life. I am a strong believer in the individual's ability to address and resolves problems their own issues. It is my belief and practice to treat the person, not the symptom or problem. My approach is one of assisting you in identifying various aspects of what brings you to therapy, including but not limited to, the strengths and limitations you bring, your life situation, the context of your life and the issue, the portion others and your environment may be contributing to your situation and the impact all of these element have on what is going on in your life. An integral part of this process is assisting you in increasing and understanding and awareness of yourself. Often, we get so caught up in the day-to-day activities that it feels kind of like one is an automaton. Person growth involves having choices and there is no choice where there is no awareness. Raising a level of self-awareness increases your ability to have and make choices. Through exploration of all these factors and possibly more, we will work toward a resolution that works for you and one that allows you to live a fuller and happier life.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Pennsylvania rather than a city like Philadelphia?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Scranton! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Pennsylvania.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
