Hi, I’m Shannon, and I’m really glad you’re here. Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and supported from the start. I work with individuals who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what’s next in their lives. Many individuals come to me for support with anxiety, depression, and life transitions, whether that’s navigating changes in relationships, career paths, identity, or overall direction. I also support children with challenges related to school, self-esteem, ADHD, and anxiety, helping them build confidence, coping skills, and emotional awareness in a supportive and age-appropriate way. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and practical. I often use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be holding you back and develop tools you can use in your everyday life to manage stress, build confidence, and move forward with intention. I believe therapy should not only help you feel better, but also give you skills that last beyond our sessions. Whether you’re working through a difficult period or simply looking for more direction and clarity, I’m here to support you in a way that feels approachable, grounded, and tailored to your needs. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. I’m here to help.

I am the co-owner and co-founder of Lydian Counseling & Consultation, LLC in the heart of the Short North Arts District in downtown Columbus, OH. Individuality is at the heart of how I work. I don’t believe there’s one right way to change your life, and I’m not here to hand you a roadmap and tell you to follow it. You’re the expert on your own life. My job is to ask the right questions, help you sort through what you actually want, and support you in building something that’s sustainable for you, not what worked for someone else, not what looks good on paper. And I mean that genuinely. You are not your diagnosis, your history, or anyone else’s idea of what change should look like. The things that make you who you are, your background, your values, your circumstances, the way you see the world, those aren’t obstacles to work around. They’re the starting point. Good therapy, in my opinion, should fit your life, not ask you to fit into it. Change is hard enough without feeling like you’re being managed. Here, you’re in the driver’s seat. I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor based in central Ohio, specializing in mental health and addiction treatment. For the past 10 years. I hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Dayton. I also completed an Addiction Medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente in Daly City, CA, an experience that gave me a deep respect for just how individual the path to recovery really is. www.lydiancounseling.com

Most say that I am down to earth and relatable. Building professional rapport is my greatest strength. I am as human as you are and make sure to demonstrate that in session. I often see parts of my own self in others that I work with. I was previously a high school teacher for 14 years before becoming a counselor. And, I’m still a teacher in this role as well. Sessions are geared towards giving you time to express yourself while assigning you “homework” in the form of development of skills to help manage your symptoms. I also throw in some humor and some cordial conversation to help with the development of professional rapport. I specialize in trauma-based therapy and have experience working with individuals who are diagnosed with depression, anxiety, grief, and some personality disorders. I provide a multi-cultural perspective to treatment and adjust treatment related to people’s cultural background. I also provide spiritual direction, which includes traditional forms of faith as well as alternative sources. I understand the courage it takes to come to therapy. It can be nerve racking when coming to your first session. As someone who has been through counseling myself, I respect the courage it takes to take that first step. Whether it’s me or another professional, I hope you are able to get the help you need.

I’m Michael Woods Jr., a licensed professional clinical counselor with over 15 years of experience. I help people who are dealing with stress, pressure, and feeling stuck—even when things on the outside look like they should be working. My approach is real and straightforward. I’m not just here to listen—I’m here to help you understand what’s actually going on and give you practical tools you can use in your everyday life. I focus a lot on how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected, and how to start responding differently instead of reacting on autopilot. A big part of my work is helping people build awareness, take ownership, and develop the mental skills needed to handle challenges more effectively. I also bring in my background in athletics and performance, so there’s an emphasis on consistency, discipline, and doing the work—not just talking about it.

I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to struggle internally and question your own worth. I spent years learning how to care for the person I saw in the mirror instead of criticizing them. That journey taught me compassion, resilience, and the importance of feeling truly understood — and it’s what drives my work helping others discover their own strength and value.

I’m a business owner, a single mom, and a foster and adoptive parent. I understand what it’s like to juggle multiple roles, carry constant responsibility, and still want to show up well for the people who matter most. One thing I say often is “work on yourself first.” It’s one of the few things we actually have control over, but it’s also the thing we tend to put off. We’re busy, we’re juggling everything, and before we know it, we’re stuck in patterns that feel frustrating and hard to break. No judgment here. I get it. I’ve been working with individuals and families as a therapist since 2018, with a background in healthcare prior to that, and I’ve spent my career serving the Fort Worth community I grew up in. I take a solution-focused, strengths-based approach, which means we’ll focus on what’s already working, build on your strengths, and create practical steps that actually move things forward.

I believe healing begins with intention, presence, and a good dose of courage. When I’m not working with clients, you’ll likely find me hiking through the woods with my two rescue dogs or throwing elbows in a Muay Thai gym. Nature, movement, and mindfulness are my anchors, and I bring that same grounded energy into a therapy session. Inspired by Viktor Frankl, “A man with a why can endure any how,” I aim to help individuals reconnect with their “why” in a world that often pulls us in every direction but inward. Life is messy, fast, and full of distractions. It’s easy to lose sight of who we are and what we need. As your therapist, I can do nothing to take away your pain; however, I vow to sit with you to endure it. I promise to do my best to assist you forthrightly, uncovering and fostering lasting resilience. I’ll offer a safe, compassionate space where we can work collaboratively to explore your story, uncover your strengths, and chart a course forward. The hardest part is getting started, so why not give it a shot? Come sit down, talk with me, and see if we can't get somewhere better than where we started.

The one question I get most often by clients and peers is: Why did you go into the counseling profession? My response is always the same. First, I have always had a desire to help people in a time of need or distress. I have felt this way as far back as high school. Secondly, I went through a debilitating anxiety disorder in my mid-twenties. I know first-hand the helplessness and desperation mental and emotional pain causes. I never condone a therapist sharing with a client, they know how the client feels unless they themselves have experienced a similar type of pain. Lastly, I believe in the power of counseling and the benefits it can offer. Counseling is very different from medicine. Counseling requires the client to be actively involved in the process of healing and growth rather than taking medication and waiting for it to work. Counseling empowers a client to by allowing them to see their progress towards the life they desire on a daily, weekly, and even monthly basis.

Are you grinding through days feeling down, empty, burned out, or like you just can’t keep doing this? Do you feel a heaviness inside that keeps coming back and makes everything harder? Are you so used to bottling up your emotions that you can hardly remember a time when you didn’t just keep everything inside? You might believe deep down that you are broken, that it’s your fault you feel this way, and you will always need to hide who you really are and what you really feel from others. Or maybe life or a relationship has just gotten really hard lately, and you don’t know where to go from here.

Hi, I’m Sarah! I'm a licensed therapist who offers online therapy for adults in Ohio and Colorado. Many of the people I work with are doing their best — but feel stretched thin, stuck in the same patterns, and unsure of how to calm the noise in their mind and body. In therapy, we’ll gently take a look at what’s going on beneath your patterns — with your stress response, thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and the experiences that shaped them. My style is practical and supportive. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT and mindfulness, and I also bring in body-based and energy-psychology tools when they’re helpful — so we’re not only talking about what’s hard, we’re building skills that help you actually feel different over time. I aim to create a space that feels safe, warm, and grounded — where you can understand yourself with more compassion and feel empowered to move toward the life and relationships you most want. Please note: I do not currently provide substance abuse treatment or services for clients actively struggling with substance use. If substance use is your primary concern, I encourage you to seek support from a provider who specializes in addiction and recovery. I currently offer remote individual therapy sessions for adults only. I do not provide couples therapy through my therapy practice or through Grow. I do, however, work with couples separately through my coaching practice, which is outside of Grow Therapy. You can learn more here: https://sarahschweppe.com/couples-coaching

Hi: My name is Barbara Doll. I have over 25 years of experience in therapy and mediation. I love to meet new clients and strive to make my sessions comfortable and, of course, without judgement. I want my sessions to be a safe, comfortable, peaceful place for clients to be able to have a safe place for people to express feelings and perhaps even identify feelings. I have a vast experience in divorce, separation and parenting issues, Domestic Abuse Issues, Depression and Anxiety Grief issues. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing as therapy interventions. If you are unsure about those interventions I will be happy to take time to explain them to you. Making an appointment for therapy takes a lot of courage and I congratulate you for taking this big step. I want my clients to experience a safe, non-judgemental, peaceful place where clients can talk about their history, express their feelings and talk about their dreams and hopes for the future and discover what may be standing in the way to achieve those hopes and dreams.

If you’ve ever had the quiet thought, “Something just isn’t right,” you’re not alone—and it’s worth paying attention to. I provide a supportive, compassionate space where you can begin to explore those feelings without judgment. My work centers individuals navigating anxiety, depression, mood-related challenges, relationship concerns, and the lasting impact of trauma. I often work with people who have been “the strong one” for others—deep feelers, caregivers, and those who find themselves stuck in patterns of people-pleasing, codependency, or difficulty trusting themselves. Many of my clients are unpacking experiences related to abandonment, rejection, identity concerns, or emotional overwhelm. I also support neurodivergent individuals who are seeking greater understanding of themselves and more effective ways to regulate their emotions and experiences. My approach is warm, intentional, and grounded in the belief that healing does not have to feel cold or clinical. Therapy with me is a collaborative process where we move at your pace, creating space for reflection, emotional processing, and practical growth. Together, we will explore your experiences, challenge unhelpful patterns, strengthen boundaries, and reconnect you with a version of yourself that feels authentic and steady. Whether you are new to therapy or returning to deepen your work, I meet you where you are—with care, curiosity, and respect for your journey.

Insurance-friendly options

Many of our Ohio anxiety therapists accept major insurance plans, and you could pay as little as $0 with coverage, with most paying $21/session on average with their insurance. We help you navigate insurance benefits so you can focus on what matters most – your mental health. Want to know what therapy might cost with your insurance? Understanding anxiety treatment options in Ohio

Anxiety treatment has evolved significantly over the years, and today there are numerous evidence-based approaches that can effectively help you manage and overcome anxiety symptoms. The good news is that you have options – from traditional talk therapy methods to newer, innovative techniques, there’s likely a treatment approach that will resonate with your learning style and personal preferences. Below are some of the most common and effective therapeutic approaches our Ohio therapists use to help clients find relief from anxiety.

Examples of evidence-based approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A commonly used method for anxiety treatment, CBT helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns while developing practical coping strategies. Many of our Ohio therapists specialize in CBT techniques specifically adapted for anxiety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Particularly effective for anxiety with emotional regulation challenges, DBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help you manage intense emotions and reduce anxiety symptoms.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Incorporating meditation and awareness of the present moment, this approach helps you develop a healthier relationship with anxious thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on accepting anxiety while committing to actions aligned with your values, helping you live a fulfilling life despite anxious feelings.

Specialized anxiety treatment areas

Our Ohio therapists have expertise in treating various anxiety-related issues, including:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder: Persistent, excessive worry about everyday situations
  • Social anxiety: Fear of social situations and being judged by others
  • Panic disorder: Recurring panic attacks and fear of future episodes
  • Specific phobias: Intense fear of particular objects, situations, or activities

How to find the right anxiety therapist in Ohio

What to look for in an anxiety therapist

Credentials and experience: Look for licensed therapists (e.g. LMFT, LICSW/LCSW, LPCC, or psychologists) with specific training in anxiety. When searching the Grow Therapy online therapy platform, you will see a clear display of each therapist’s credentials, years of experience, and specialty areas.

Therapeutic approach alignment: Consider which therapeutic approaches resonate with you. Some people prefer structured, skills-based approaches like CBT, while others may benefit from more exploratory or mindfulness-based methods.

To find a therapist by treatment method, you can use the “Treatment Methods” filter above. You may also double check a therapist’s treatment methods by viewing the “My treatment method” section on their profile page. To learn more about the types of therapy available, check out our guide on the different types of therapy.

Availability and scheduling: Choose a therapist whose schedule aligns with yours. Many of our Ohio providers offer both virtual and in-person sessions, providing flexibility for your busy lifestyle.

Insurance acceptance: Verify that your preferred therapist accepts your insurance plan. We make this easy by showing accepted insurances for each therapist.

Overcoming common barriers to anxiety treatment

Cost concerns: Many people worry about the cost of therapy, but with insurance coverage and a large network of in-person and online therapists on Grow Therapy who accept various plans, treatment can be more affordable than you think. We’re here to help you understand your benefits and find cost-effective options.

Time constraints: Anxiety often makes daily tasks feel overwhelming, and finding time for therapy can seem impossible. Our flexible scheduling options, including evening and weekend appointments, plus virtual sessions, make it easier to prioritize your mental health.

Stigma and privacy: It’s natural to feel hesitant about seeking help, but remember that anxiety is a treatable mental health condition. At Grow Therapy, we have built our online therapy platform to prioritize your privacy and connect you with understanding professionals who create safe, judgment-free spaces.

Finding the right fit: Not every therapist is the right match for every person, and that’s okay. Our detailed provider profiles and filtering options help you find someone who aligns with your preferences and needs. If you find the provider you choose is not the right fit, Grow Therapy makes it easy to switch and find a new provider who better fits your needs and what you’re seeking in your care.

Getting started with anxiety therapy in Ohio

What to expect in your first session

Your first therapy session is designed to help you and your therapist get to know each other and begin understanding your anxiety experiences. Your therapist will likely ask about:

  • Your current anxiety symptoms and triggers
  • How anxiety impacts your daily life
  • Your personal and family mental health history
  • Your goals for treatment
  • Any previous therapy experiences

This initial session is also your opportunity to ask questions about the therapeutic process, your therapist’s approach, and what you can expect moving forward. To learn more about the therapy process, check out our guide to going to therapy.

Preparing for your anxiety treatment journey

Questions to Ask Your Therapist:

  • What is your experience helping people who have signs of anxiety?
  • What therapeutic approaches do you use for anxiety?
  • How long does treatment typically take?
  • What can I do between sessions to support my progress?
  • How will we measure progress?

Setting realistic expectations: Anxiety treatment is a process, not a quick fix. While many people experience some relief early in treatment, developing lasting coping skills and seeing significant symptom reduction typically takes time and consistent effort.

Developing coping strategies: Your therapist will work with you to develop personalized coping strategies that you can use both in and outside of your sessions. These might include breathing exercises, grounding techniques, challenging unhelpful thoughts, or mindfulness practices.

Insurance and affordability for anxiety treatment in Ohio

Making therapy accessible

Insurance coverage options: Many major insurance plans cover mental health treatment, including therapy for anxiety. Our Ohio therapists accept a wide range of insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and many others. Insurance providers do vary by state, however, so please verify that your insurance is available in Ohio.

Understanding your benefits: We help you understand your mental health benefits, including copays, deductibles, and coverage limits. This transparency allows you to make informed decisions about your care. To learn more about how therapy and insurance work together, check out our guide to understanding insurance for therapy.

Additional support options: For those without insurance or with limited coverage, many of our therapists offer cash options, and employee assistance programs (EAPs) through your workplace may also provide free or low-cost counseling sessions.
