Hi! I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counsellor (LCMHC) currently serving both North and South Carolina. I have utilized my Masters of Counseling in practice for 8 years. I've spent over 12 years as a Protective Services Social Worker and in that time I had the privilege to serve many people in many walks of life. Hello, there! I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) raised in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and have been supporting clients in the area since 2021. Outside of private practice I volunteer as a crisis counselor and victim's advocate for those who have suffered consent violations/sexual assault within kink and alternative communities. I am queer, non-binary, and identify as a "kinky relationship anarchist." I was an active member of various kink and polyamorous communities across the country from 2011 to early 2024 and continue to support these communities through education and mental health outreach. In my free time, I enjoy camping, hiking, and connecting with nature. I find fulfillment in spending time with loved ones, giving back to my community, and the active pursuit of deepening my spiritual path.

Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and exhausted constantly? Isolated and alone because you don’t want to burden your friends or family with your problems? Or maybe you don’t know quite how to name why you feel this way or how to talk about it. Well, there is good news - therapy is the place to explore these challenging thoughts and feelings. I’ve worked in mental health since 2016, helping people of all ages, backgrounds, and challenges. I approach mental health challenges with a holistic mindset to help identify what we can change, inside of our control, and increase resilience. Depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma are a few examples of mental health struggles that impact how we live and experience the world. However, the opposite is also true! Because our lifestyles can influence our ability to tolerate stress and feel good about ourselves. My job as a therapist is to help you identify what is working, and what isn't working, and what we can do about it. I believe in us working as a team and supporting you in achieving your goals, so you can reconnect with your inner strength, resilience, and confidence to manage life's challenging ebbs and flows. Why choose me? Well, to help me feel less like a stranger, here is more detail about my background: My M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is from Lenoir Rhyne University's Graduate Center of Asheville, NC in Dec. 2020. I hold a B.S. in Psychology from Longwood University in Farmville, VA. I'm a Qualified Mental Health Professional with 5.5 years of direct care experience with teens in residential treatment. My graduate internship was community and school-based outpatient therapy with Access Family Services. August 2021 to March 2024, I was an outpatient therapist, in-person and virtual, with a company in the Chapel Hill area.

Well hello! My name is Lori. Are you feeling the need to live your life differently? Are the things you've tried in the past no longer beneficial or adequate for this stage in your life? I encourage my clients to do the things that they've never done in order to experience the life they've always wanted. I help them identify the source of what has limited them and caused them emotional pain, whether it be from anxiety or depression stemming from childhood trauma, broken relationships, toxic work environment, sexuality, aging, or religious trauma to name a few. I enjoy working alongside my clients and being a part of their "aha!!" moments on their life's journey. I utilize my belief in the interconnectedness of humanity with nature to assist my clients in understanding life, growth, change, grace and what constitutes true success.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by North Carolina rather than a city like Charlotte?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across North Carolina from Raleigh to Greensboro! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in North Carolina.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on LGBTQ?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, LGBTQ, is filtering therapists in North Carolina that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
