I specialize in anxiety, couples counseling, Christian counseling, holistic health, family conflict, grief, parenting, postpartum, self-esteem issues, and women's issues. Life is filled with challenges, from relationships and life changes to traumatic events, anxiety, and depression. Finding a space where you are seen and heard is crucial; a place where you are valued and free to process your fears, hurts, expectations, and needs—from the practical to the painful. A place where you are welcome to share all parts of your story: mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, and relational. This is that place, and I am so glad you are here! I am a certified social worker licensed in Maryland, DC, Michigan, and California, with licenses as an LICSW, LCSW-C, and LCSW. With over 17 years of education and professional experience, I offer a client-centered space where we work together to bring change, healing, and help wherever you need it. I have lived in several places across the country, experiencing various cultures, strengths, and needs. We will work together to create an effective plan with tools and strategies specifically tailored for you. I understand that no single modality is universally effective for every individual or couple, and I have dedicated my career to acquiring proficiency in various clinical approaches. My experience includes Christian Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Informed Therapy, Couples Counseling, Grief Therapy. While CBT provides a main structure for my approach, the foundation of our work is built on your story and the core beliefs you hold. Therapy is only as effective as the relationship built between you and me. As such, I prioritize authenticity, transparency, and trust. If you are looking for a safe, genuine, welcoming space, I trust you will find it here! I hope to have the opportunity to journey with you through this season of your life...

Hi, everyone. I'm Susan. Welcome to my world – an experience in which we engage in a unique partnership on what may be one of the most important journeys of your life. Are you feeling unloved, unappreciated, helpless, hopeless due to some unplanned reality in your life. Do you need healing from adversity such as the ending of a relationship, the loss of employment, an unexpected debilitating illness, the death of a loved one, post-partum depression. These are a few of life occurrences that may have us feeling we will never see the light in the darkness or rise out of the flood of emotion. No matter what the adversity, we each have the inborn resilience to either return to a previous "normal" or carve out a new "normal." On this journey, we are truly partners. Each of us has a part in the process of healing. I rely on my knowledge and skills to guide me in EMDR, CBT, CPT, DPT, or Mindfulness. New coping strategies help to reduce the intensity of symptoms and permit you to face whatever painful occurrence has come into your life. So…I invite you to invite me to share this journey.

A client comes in to see her therapist and is 10 minutes late. She sits down and apologizes for her tardiness, to which the therapist replies that no apologies are necessary as clients are only late for their first session. The vignette illustrates something that I see in clients repeatedly who come into my office. Many should have come in at least a year or two ago but for some reason think that the problems they experience are still manageable. While I admire the will of many of those who still manage life like the proverbial Dutch Boy and the dike, I believe that asking for help is a strength of its own. In therapy, I come from the perspective of someone that had to receive help at various times in my life. I've also had a meandering career path, meaning that I've worked in several fields and industries prior to becoming a therapist and have been able to do ground-level empathizing with people who work in blue and white-collar professions.

My name is Circe Dunwoody. I am a license psychotherapist. In my psychotherapy practice I help couples and individuals to overcome life difficulties by using cognitive behavior therapy. Many couples and individuals feel overwhelmed by the desire to balance the high demands from work and family life. They report feelings of emptiness and loss of drive. Some report feeling of depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. Others contemplate divorce as a solution to decrease the pressure they are internalizing. You can contact me for help if you are experiencing some of the feelings I have mentioned above, and you are ready to make changes in your life. l work with couples and individuals in a safe and confidential platform environment. In life we all need support and understanding from others. Sometimes the best solution is to seek professional help. Having emotional support is extremely helpful. Relying on friends or family members is also helpful. However, you may not want to overwhelm them with problems. The most intelligent solution is seeking professional help.
