I am that rare Florida native who resides in the same area where I was born and raised. I’m in phase 2 of my work life. I retired from Pinellas County Government in 2017, where I worked as the manager of the county’s 911 Center for over 32 years. The daily human tragedies 911 dispatchers handle can be very stressful, but I found the personal stories of my employees much more compelling. My work as the 911 Center manager inspired me to become a therapist. The first half of my career was spent in two hospitals providing various services to the inpatient and outpatient population working on medical, surgical, ICU, Burn, and specialty services as well as inpatient physical rehabilitation, substance abuse, and psychiatric units. I grew up in South Florida with four sisters and two brothers. I was very independent at a very young age and willing to help out wherever. I am a musician starting with piano in elementary school, then clarinet in middle school, and bass clarinet and bassoon in high school. I love music and find it beneficial in every aspect of life. I decided to grow my family before pursuing a career. I decided to pursue a career in the mental health field because of a family member being diagnosed with a severe mental health disorder. I earned my AA in Psychology, then a dual degree in Psychology and Behavioral Science. After my undergrad, I went on to receive my master's in social work. I have worked with Veterans, homeless, hospice, young adults, children, elders, couples and individuals with severe mental health diagnoses.
