I began my training as a psychotherapist in 1994, with a focus on working with couples, adults and families, particularly clients with a history of trauma and significant losses. Since earning my license in 1998 i have acquired 25+ years of experience and can say I am truly passionate and dedicated to helping couples, adults and family grow and heal from their pain and live happy, enjoyable lives with their loved ones.

There is an undeniable urge toward growth, wholeness and healing within each individual. The journey of healing and growth is a unique process for every individual. My approach to psychotherapy is tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals and build on existing strengths. I implement evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy as well as a creative approach. I am a licensed clinical psychologist, licensed marriage and family therapist and a Master Level Registered Addiction Specialist. Dr. Elena Balashova-Shamis is a highly experienced, licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adults, and the elderly. She is trained as a psychoanalyst and provides integrative, personalized treatments. She teaches at five local universities, including UCLA’s medical school. She is known for her presentations, publications, and dissertation advising. She also works with family and criminal law courts as an expert witness.
