Hi, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Northern California. I have been providing mental health services and interventions for the past 6years. Prior to that I was providing addiction counseling. My approach is genuine and authentic, warm and welcoming. I use motivational interviewing to move you along. To assist you in the transformative process. Together we will unpack what has been pushed down for years, change your perspective, focusing on core values and true self. I have work 4 years in crisis intervention, stabilization and helping you develop a plan to move forward with your life. Do you feel overwhelmed and exhausted by the challenges life throws your way? Life has shown up and you might feel depressed, anxious, lonely or angry. You could be struggling in your relationships. Do you have unresolved grief, trauma or shame? Do you allow your emotions to get the best of you? You have found the right place. You have taken the first step towards self-healing and transformation. Seeking therapy can be a scary process. It's difficult to be vulnerable with a stranger. I believe clients should be treated with compassion, dignity and respect. I encourage you to reach out and begin the healing process. A lot of issues we struggle with start with the relationship we have with our selves. When we change ourselves, our issues tend to resolve as well. I provide a safe, caring and nonjudgmental environment and use evidence-based therapies to help you meet your goals.

My name is Don Ross, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with individuals & couples and focus mainly on the here-and-now: the thoughts, feelings, and sensations that come up as we work together. Clients describe me as warm, human, and responsive. My #1 priority is to be fully present, accepting, and genuine—and to trust that each person I see has the wisdom and resources to find their own answers to whatever struggles have brought them to me. In my experience, people heal and grow if they are given the time, attention, and human connection they need to feel they are not alone in facing their troubles. I know this road personally—as client as well as therapist. For most of us, the process of healing means growth, learning, and better relationships with ourselves and the people in our lives--and it’s often an enjoyable journey. I welcome you as you share your journey from crisis to growth.

I mainly work with complex highly educated people interested in long term therapy who have significant life experience, aged 35 and over-- you realize self-improvement will take time and work. Most of my clients have developed serious and/or specialized interests in the arts or sciences, as I have. I'm a published personality researcher and former consulting psychologist for the California Dept of Mental Health, and have professional music composing and performance experience. I have wide and far-flung experience in many areas of the world, and worked in database design/programming for several F500 companies including Eli Lilly and Hertz I've been licensed 17 years, had a specialized training sequence in Jungian psychology, worked professionally in the human services, music and information technology industries and have lived over 60 years. If you want a therapist/analyst with knowledge that only comes from some talent combined with wide experience, I may be able to be of assistance. I have decades of clinical experience with people ranging from inmates in State prisons to scientifically brilliant individuals making progress in the areas of life-saving new medications. I've training in meditation (Zen, TM, Yoga, Tibetan), music, and endurance athletics. One central idea I love is "We can only fix the future." I like to help people move into a better one. But PLEASE see ground rules below. There are no exceptions. IMPORTANT NOTICES: 1) I have a Strict no-show/Late Cancellation policy. Cancellations less than 24 hours before appointments result in me billing a no-show fee. 2) All clients have a right to their notes from therapy for a "reasonable charge." ( State law) My fee is $20 per record. However any type of advocacy, for instance offering opinions on disability, involvement in lawsuits, and communication with agencies like Child Protective Services or your lawyers or the like is only handled in my independent private practice separate from GROW's intermediation. there is a sizeable retainer required before any discussion or work and my higher hourly fees are almost never covered by insurance.

My role is to assist you in your path to change by improving your sense of self. This includes developing an awareness of your ideas, feelings, and actions, which serves as the foundation for forming new habits and encouraging healthy self-talk about change. The key to lasting change is building these practices into your routine. Practice them regularly, tweak them as you go, and gradually, they'll become second nature.

If someone asked you not to think for 10 minutes how hard would that be? Is overthinking about the “What Ifs” driving you to relentlessly check things over and over again? Are you determined to find certainty in an uncertain world? Do you frequently ask others repeatedly if something or someone is going to be OK? No matter how much you do a task or say a particular thing does peace of mind elude you? Does the compulsion to handwash, re-read, double check, pray, or re-arrange items never provide lasting relief? Do you find yourself burdened by intrusive thoughts that strike against your will and preoccupy your mind for hours a day? OCD is characterized by unabating obsessions matched with intense mental or behavioral rituals to relieve the anxiety provoked. It is not treated by “talk therapy” but with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Through customized gradual exposures, ERP is an evidence-based method of intervention to reduce the severity of OCD symptoms. ERP is a collaborative and creative approach to learning new skills and strategies to become comfortable with uncertainty and more confident in your ability to handle life’s unexpected challenges. My style is compassionate, client centered, and culturally sensitive. What to do if you’re nervous about sharing your thoughts with me in therapy? If you're too embarrassed to share something, you can write it down, you can use visuals, you can type it. We can work around this to find other ways that you can deliver the communication. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, Hawaii, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada and Virginia. Registered Out-of-State Telehealth Provider in Florida, South Carolina, and Vermont. My treatment focus is on neurodivergent issues, gifted learners, managing life transitions, women’s mental health issues around shifting roles in family and career, and immigration/re-entry adjustment stressors.

My approach draws on psychoanalytic thinking, which revolves on one central idea: much of what we think and feel remains outside of our awareness. Sometimes we keep powerful feelings hidden so we can continue moving through the day, or we simply cannot find time to reflect on everything that is happening to us. In any case, keeping these potent experiences hidden may leave us feeling stiff, dreary, unfulfilled, or even numb and dull.
