Greetings, I'm Anita Smith! If this is your first time seeking help, I would like to commend you for your courage. I'm curious to know what bought you here and what you would like to get out of therapy? I specialize in helping individuals cope with the different kinds of losses: 1) Primary losses - the death of a loved one, friend or pet, break-up, separation, divorce, loss of job, loss of money, the victim of a crime and losses due to Covid19 2)Secondary losses - moving, illness, changes and success; 3) Limbo losses - Covid 19, waiting for the outcome of a test result, a lawsuit, separation, not knowing the outcome; 4) Complicated losses - primary, secondary and limbo losses going on at the same time. The reactions to loss could be feeling of anxiety, depression, helpless, fearful, emptiness, despair, pessimistic, irritability, anger, guilty, restlessness, loss of concentration, hope, motivation, energy, change in appetite, sleep pattern and a tendency to be more fatigued and error-prone. Are you experiencing any of those feelings? I also work with individuals who desire prayer before our sessions. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas for 20+ years, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) for 30+ years, and a Board Certified Coach (BCC) for 7 years.

I have been supporting individuals just like you for over 12 years. I am committed to helping people learn how to live their BEST LIVES! My practice focuses on targeting ANYTHING that stands in your way of functioning as your BEST self. I believe in taking a holistic and collaborative approach. This means we work together, as a team to improve your whole life-not just your mental or emotional health. I am a seeker, so I am ALWAYS looking for new ways through research, evidence-based practices, and new educational opportunities to be of service to those looking for support. The face of someone who looks for support... looks like mine. Sometimes it's struggling with anxiety or depression. Or maybe diabetes and the toll the management of the disease takes on your life. It could also look like a teen looking for direction at school or navigating the world into young adulthood. Or a couple on the brink of calling it quits because of financial stress. It could look like someone who has lost their job or home and turned to Alcohol or something else to ease the pain. Or someone who just can't shake things they may or may not label as TRAUMA in their lives. More important than any of these situations, is the question: HOW DO WE REGAIN CONTROL OVER OUR HAPPINESS AND OUR LIVES? This is precisely what our goal is- find a plan to answer this question. There are multiple ways we can go about finding this answer, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EFT (TAPPING) EMDR, Mindfulness-based modalities, Motivational Interviewing and, more. If you are interested in discovering which method will be effective for us to use, please schedule an appointment and we will get started laying the path together!

"There can be no transforming of darkness into light ... without emotion." -Jung Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the core of my training. It embraces the belief systems of the past that affect your present. It's a state-of-mind that defines thinking that affects emotional awareness. To become aware is not to change, but to understand and accept. Carrying guilt or shame of the past, triggers the conflict of now. I don't offer advice - I offer choices - a chance to choose your own method of healing that fits you - not something others feel 'should' be. Come. Sit. Talk. Let's wander your path together. Licensed in Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina, Washington DC, Arizona, and Florida

At this time, I am choosing to work only with Individual men, men of color and members of the LGBTQIA+ community - ***including those questioning*** Our first understanding of ourselves comes from the first people we know. From there, the other relationships we participate in tend to reflect those aspects of ourselves previously learned. I specialize in successfully treating the presenting symptoms of childhood trauma. Including and often self-limiting: substance abuse, social and intrapersonal anxieties, clinical, situational and abandonment depression, and the often self-sabotaging and socially unacceptable yet still ubiquitous unresolved rage. As a California and Arizona Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I am privileged to work with a variety of highly intelligent and uniquely talented people, who, due to a lifetime of psychological, spiritual and philosophical pain are often the last to be aware of their authenticity as their true value. The kind of pain that breeds overwhelming feelings of anxiety & depression; encourages thoughts of confusion & discourages the truth in one’s potential or abilities. All of which lends itself toward self-destructive behaviors that double down as “proof” of our unworthiness.
