Hello! I'm Julie. Do you need a tune-up? Is your life-work balance causing issues? Do you have healthy boundaries? Do you want to enjoy your life? Please note I have a sliding scale (and honor prices from on other platforms, if we had already worked together). I am passionate about helping clients of all ages have fulfilling lives. I help individuals, couples, and families who are seeking a little or a lot of help. I empower those who have no voice. Together, we can identify what's not working and get you back to balance. I collaborate with you to put together a treatment plan. We'll use a whole-self approach, addressing your needs for mind, body and spirit. I use worksheets (sometimes if you like them!). Whether you're dealing with overwhelm, relationship issues, addictions, or cycles of anxiety and depression, I'm here to help. Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques so you can overcome the hangups and habits holding you back. Let's work together!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After your first session, you can expect to know more about me and my approach to counseling. Together we will decide what you want out of therapy and what to focus on in each session. Your direction and goals are not set in stone; you can decide to change or add to your goals at any time. As we move forward, we will check in on your goals to see how you are progressing, making changes if necessary to create success. After working together for a while, you decide if more sessions are warranted. My job is not to have a lifelong client. My job is to give you the tools to take away to help you have lifelong happiness.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I thought my biggest strength is putting clients at ease. I know that is up there however!! my biggest strength is my life experience. I am not young. I have lived a long traumatic life filled with happiness, sorrow, loss, and more. My many years of teaching, coaching, and counseling (in another state) far outweigh the few years of my current licensure. Second, the communication skills that I use and teach increase understanding and healthy boundaries. Third, I have the strength of research and resources. Fourth, I have humility. Too often we look to others for help, and we can feel small in the process. My humility creates a different dynamic: The client is the expert, and I am the (talking) toolbelt! Fifth, I love metaphors! When we teach using metaphors, the information sticks: For family dynamics, I might discuss bears in three chairs. For addictions, I will describe a swimming pool with concrete sidewalks and grass beyond. For emotional dysregulation, I show my artistic (!) drawing of a river. Make an appointment to hear more! Finally, my strengths include normalizing mental health topics.

My treatment methods

Adlerian

By understanding the past systems (family, friends, colleagues), one can better understand the present. This method is not always needed but can be beneficial if the client agrees to it.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing helps decrease emotional reactivity to past present and/or future.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT was my least favorite until a professor explained its simplicity: If thinking is the issue, change the behavior; if behavior is an issue, change the thinking. By changing that which is not the issue, the issue can be resolved. Simplified, yes! Two other methods within the CBT family are ACT and DBT. Both are also part of my treatment methods when warranted. Acceptance Commitment and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies are useful for accepting that which was and/or for realizing two opposing feelings can be valid together.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is highly recommended if wanting to help the relationship. Just hearing one individual will not give the big picture, and help is then only partial. Learning communication skills and practicing within session can create healing no matter the conflict in a coupleship.

Family Therapy

A problem with one individual in a family can be remedied with individual therapy, but the change could create imbalance in the family. By counseling the family unit, change can be harmonious rather than rocky.
