Hello, my name is Tyra Hughes and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I live and work in the Bay Area of California. For over twenty years I have worked as a social worker for children and families in the foster care system. In addition, since 2017, I have been a licensed therapist and I have experience providing therapy to children, adults, and couples in English and Spanish. I also supervise others on their journey to becoming therapists. I have a BA in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley and a Masters in Social Work from San Jose State. In addition to my formal education, I take trainings to help me grow as a therapist on a regular basis. Personally, I am a single mother to two teenagers and I love nature, travel, and sports. I look forward to working with you if you feel we would be a good match. Currently I only provide individual therapy, not couples or family counselling.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
The style of therapy I use is strength based and adapts to each person's unique needs. I am passionate about helping, and I honor and respect each person for who they are. For that reason, I take into account of several aspects of life, including, but not limited to cultural, gender, and economic identities. There's nothing I haven't heard, and I want to be sure that you feel seen and understood. My goal is to help and empower you. Usually, at the end of our session, I leave you with something to work on.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize motivational interviewing, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy.

My strength is my ability to be non-judgmental and understanding. I bring with me my education, along with my personal and professional experiences. I am straightforward and help to find resolutions.
