Hello! My name is Greg and I have over 20 years of experience in the counseling profession working with clients from various mental health settings. I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help clients from diverse backgrounds in managing anxiety, depression or difficulties with anger. Simply, my goal is to help you feel better and to make informed decisions about your mental health and well-being. I’m here to work with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My hope for the first and every session is that the person I am working with feels supported, accepted, and genuinely cared for. I am non-directive in my approach to therapy, therefore; I feel that sessions are driven by the client and their life experiences rather than by the therapist. Additionally, during our first session we will cover the necessary paperwork, discuss reasons for therapy, and work to build a trusting therapeutic relationship.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Patience has become a hallmark of my 20 years in the counseling profession. At times, you will encounter clients who struggle to make progress or who make decisions that do not benefit them. As a counselor, you must have the patience to walk them through their struggles so they can find their way to a healthier life. I also believe that knowing how to sit and intently listen to what your client has to say goes a long way in building rapport and a trusting relationship. Finally, you also need to demonstrate to your clients that you respect them in there struggles and want to help them heal.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I welcome both individual adults and young people who are seeking to create change in their lives. Many of my clients bring emotional pain, symptoms of anxiety and depression, anger problems that get in the way of success, or stress and self-criticism about their daily life. Together, we can explore and make changes regarding these issues.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

My experience in using Person Center (Rogerian) therapy goes back a couple decades. My graduate professor often stated, “You're steeped in Rogerian therapy”. He expressed that the foundation of counseling program was Person Center (Rogerian) therapy and that forming a therapeutic alliance was very important. The focus is on the client's subjective experience and their own capacity for self-direction and growth. The therapist does not provide advice or direction but rather encourages the client to trust their own inner resources to find solutions to their problems.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In Cognitive Behavioral therapy, I work collaboratively with the client to identify and change unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to psychological distress. During a session, I may use various techniques such as cognitive restructuring (balanced and realistic thinking), role-play, and problem-solving to help the client develop more adaptive ways of thinking and behaving. By focusing on the here and now, CBT can help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, empowering them to make positive changes in their lives.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-focused therapy is a goal-oriented approach that I use to focus the client on solutions rather than on problems. In sessions, I use this approach to help clients identify their goals and explore potential solutions, rather than delving deeply into the underlying causes of their issues. The therapist and client collaborate to develop a clear vision of the client's desired future and then work together to establish steps to achieve that future. Solution-focused therapy typically emphasizes the client's strengths and resources, aiming to empower them to create positive change in their lives.
