I’m a warm, practical, intuitive and curious therapist with over 20 years of experience with all kinds of people in many settings, including agencies, primary care, schools and private practice. Since I’ve found that clients usually seek therapy with an urgency to make things better -- to reduce the intensity, frequency and duration of difficult emotions or experiences -- I typically take a two-tiered approach where we make sure we address current concerns while also establishing a deep foundation for long term healing and growth. I listen closely and am flexible and interested in pursuing what is helpful, and leaving behind the things that aren’t. Having become a therapist in my 30’s, I had lived the stress of service industry work, an ambitious career in advertising, and experienced several years of losses and challenges in my life before training a therapeutic lens on it -- and believe my therapy work is better for it.
During your therapy sessions we'll collaborate to reduce the frequency, duration and intensity of your problems and concerns. Some of this work --and experience of change -- takes place during the therapy session, while other work and change occurs in between visits. Over time you can expect to feel some relief from the difficult symptoms you brought to therapy. This varies from client to client so it's impossible to be more specific before engaging in the therapy process.
I have always stayed on top of the various types of therapy that help clients heal and move forward. These include: EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative, Solution-Focused, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral), ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), Mindfulness, Guided Imagery and other somatic therapy tools. My early training was in Attachment-Based Therapies and Family Systems which still informs my perspective.
Our therapy sessions will provide a safe environment open to exploring your worries and concerns, while providing strategies for reducing anxiety -- and other difficult emotions -- in, and in between, sessions.
